Dana Carvey said it was a "joy" to work with his son Dex, who followed in his father's footsteps, before his tragic death.

Yesterday it was revealed that Wayne's World star Dana had suffered a loss when he announced that his son Dex was found dead at age 32. Dana confirmed on Instagram last night that his son's cause of death was an accidental overdose.

In a heartbreaking statement shared online on Thursday night, he wrote: "Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy. He further explained that Dex was "beloved" as he elaborated on the events leading up to his death.

He wrote: "Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things — music, art, film making, comedy — and pursued all of them passionately. It's not an exaggeration to say Dex loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life, too. He made everything fun. But most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee.

"Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever."

And now in a new update, Dana has spoken about working with his son recently. "Dex and me working together. What a joy," he penned on his Instagram alongside a photo of the two standing side by side and grinning.

Dex starred alongside his father in a range of shows, including The Funster and Beyond the Comics. Following in his father's footsteps again, he also opened Carvey's TV comedy special titled Straight White Male, 60, in 2016.

The comments section was quick to fill up with messages of condolence. One person penned: "Love this picture, Dana. It tells so much. God bless you Dex." Another then said: "So unbelievably sad for your loss. Dex was the best, and always a blast to talk to and riff with and had an amazing amount of energy and positivity."

"He looks just like you. Father and son working together. Nothing cooler than that," penned a third. While a fourth said: "In wake of such a tragedy, this is such a beautiful picture. Addiction can't take these memories."

According to TMZ, Dex was found on Wednesday night by his girlfriend who called emergency services. Making the call from their Los Angeles home around 10pm, paramedics tried to revive Dex, who was found locked in a bathroom, but he was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
