If there is one thing we can be certain about when it comes to the Prince and Princess of Wales, it's that they are both pretty competitive. From sailing all the way to spinning, if the couple gets a chance to go head to head whilst undertaking their official royal duties, they never miss the opportunity to show off their sporting skills and to try and beat the other. It turns out that this competitiveness runs in the family, with Princess Charlotte sharing their passion for sport - and winning - making her seem more similar to her mother Kate with each passing year of the eight-year-old's life.

Charlotte, who is third in line to the throne, is also reported to be a really big fan of rugby and enjoys playing the sport herself. Kate is patron of both the Rugby Football League and the English Rugby Football Union - these roles were previously held by Prince Harry before he stepped back as working royal and Kate took them over in February 2022. In early October she took part in a wheelchair rugby training session for Rugby Inclusivity Week - for which she donned a Rugby Football League polo top and tracksuit bottoms, a change from her usual chic attire. She noted: "I've come in sportswear to get stuck in," the Evening Standard reported, showing just how seriously she is likely to approach any chance to play sport.

Those who were in attendance noted how quickly she took to the game, with the coach joking "I think she's been having secret practice sessions before coming here because she was a natural," according to the Daily Mail.

An avid fan of rugby, she also attended various matches in the recent Rugby World Cup, and it seems like Charlotte is definitely following in her footsteps. Back in June, as part of her Shaping Us campaign, Kate attended an engagement at Maidenhead Rugby Club, where she took part in a netball rugby game. It was here that she revealed that the Wales family often have a game of rugby together in their garden..

According to The Express, Nigel Gillingham, president of the Rugby Football Union, said that Kate had explained: "She was telling me that she regularly plays rugby with her children in the back garden—and lots of other sports. Apparently, Charlotte is very much in her mould, very competitive as well."

If the young princess is even half as competitive as her parents, maybe one day when Charlotte's older we will even see her go head to head with the future King and Queen - until then it's probably safe to assume that neither of her parents will be letting her win.
