The UK's own Nightmare on Elm Street is filled with abandoned homes and shops after an urban explorer stumbled across it.

YouTuber Adam Mark, 34, from Wales captured the abandoned houses in Elm Street, Ellesmere Port, UK, using a Sony a6400.

Nightmare on Elm Street is a 1984 American supernatural slasher film which follows a group of teenagers who are targeted by Freddy Krueger, an undead former child killer who can murder people through their dreams, as retribution against their parents who burned him alive.

The film sparked a series of films, a TV show and comic books around the villain, making the character an iconic figure of Halloween pop culture.

It is speculated that the street fell victim to the “a superstitious market” as some research Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) revealed that decades after the 1984 horror film Nightmare on Elm Street was released, homes on roads named Elm Street across the UK still sell for up to 70% less than the local average.

“I used to watch the Nightmare on Elm Street film series as a child, which definitely gave me an addiction to horror and all things creepy, and going to this road was a little eerie, even for me”, said Adam.

“I wasn't sure if there was anyone sleeping rough in the houses, that always adds a little adventure as you literally have no idea what you will find in each place. I had thousands of comments about the films on the video, such as ‘they left because of Freddie Kruger’, and ‘I heard this place was a nightmare’.”

Adam has explored many abandoned sites and came across the abandoned street whilst searching for abandoned locations via Google Maps.

“I pulled up in the car, parked on the corner and walked up the street capturing all the decay on the shops and houses”, said Adam. I was on the street and entered a house through a broken window. I love this location as it gives a glimpse into an apocalyptic world, and it’s also possibly a glimpse into the future, as well as the past.

“I also like to see the history of people’s lives on display and try to figure out how people once lived. It was amazing to see this place, it felt like entering a different world or timeline.

“It always feels good to capture these houses as they may not be there soon and it's good to keep a record of where we've been, and who could’ve been there before us.”

Adam shared what people love most about this video. “People are amazed when they see the videos, I think people enjoy the curious nature around abandoned exploring”, said Adam.

“It also gives people the chance to see what they sometimes aren't able to. I have followers that message that they are disabled or house bound and they live vicariously through the videos.”
