Ex- Manchester United forward and talkSPORT regular Alan Brazil has claimed Erik ten Hag "is a goner" if the Red Devils fail to beat Luton on Saturday.

United welcome the Hatters to Old Trafford in a clash that could have severe repercussions for the manager if they fail to register anything less than a win. It has been a miserable start to the season, with Ten Hag overseeing more defeats than victories after nine losses in 17 games.

As a result, the scrutiny surrounding his place in the Old Trafford hot seat is growing with each match that United underwhelm in. The latest speculation suggests that some players within the squad are starting to question some of the Dutchman's tactical decisions.

Amid this backdrop of uncertainty, Brazil has given his thoughts and claimed that the festive period could see Ten Hag lose his job. he told talkSPORT: " Manchester United have to beat Luton - if they don't, he's a goner.

"Here's a prediction, he won't go, from what I hear, before December, but December 1 - he's in big danger. I don't think it's going to happen until after December."

Brazil continued, claiming: "Listen, I have nothing against Ten Hag, but I honestly believe they are not playing for him and I think he's lost the dressing room. I've said that before and I am sure he's lost it."

The claims come just hours after reports emerged suggesting that sections of the United squad are beginning to question certain tactical decisions made by Ten Hag. His persistence when it comes to selecting 35-year-old Jonny Evans ahead of four-time Champions League winner Raphael Varane has raised eyebrows.

United's £72million striker Rasmsus Hojlund, who was hooked during the 4-3 defeat by Copenhagen despite the fact the club needed a goal, publicly issued his backing to Ten Hag in the aftermath of that loss. The ex-Atalanta man told the media: "Everyone in the dressing room is behind him [Ten Hag], so I think it's just a matter of time before things go our way."

Following Saturday's clash with Luton, the fixture list is not particularly kind to United. Three successive away games against Everton, Galatasaray and Newcastle await the Red Devils after the international break.

The next home game after that comes against Chelsea on December 6 - by which time, according to Brazil's claims, Ten Hag could already be out of a job.
