Strictly fans fume 'wrong person went' and blast judges' decision to save Angela

The Strictly Come Dancing judges have provoked a bitter backlash from fans after they voted to save Angela Rippon over Adam Thomas in the latest dance off.

The long-running BBC dance competition is now heading towards the eighth week of the contest - and Blackpool is in a couple of weeks' time. Every year, the contestants descend on the iconic northern city and the contestants are judged inside the Blackpool Tower Ballroom - often nicknamed the "home of ballroom dancing”.

But sadly for 35-year-old soap actor Adam, he won’t be heading to Blackpool as he is set to head home to Manchester instead after bombing out of the show on Sunday night. He, alongside pro-dancer Luba Mushtuk, 33, were in the bottom two and faced a dance off against 79-year-old Angela and her 28-year-old dance partner Kai Widdrington.

Following a dance off, the judges opted to save Angela and Kai - meaning Adam and Luba’s time on the show came to an end. Adam’s fans have been left fuming, however, and have been lashing out on social media about the Sunday show result.

One fan fumed on X: “Only caught the dance off of this week’s #Strictly and it was clearly the wrong decision?” Another agreed, writing: "Sorry, wrong decision. Adam had a lot of potential to keep getting better, his scores have been consistently climbing. Angela is great, especially considering her age, but she has a lot of experience, and realistically she won’t get any better than she is now. #strictly.”

Another fan wrote: “No hate to Angela at all, because I think she is getting too much negativity from people. But I do think Adam danced better in the dance off, Angela's waltz was very lumpy. Sorry but I think the judges made the wrong decision.”

Before long, conspiracy theories were circulating - with some thinking show producers rigged the result in order to secure a specific line-up for the Blackpool special. One fan wrote: “Angela had to readjust her position (a mistake?) yet no judge mentioned it and she was saved by them all? Almost like they need her to get to Blackpool…”

And another raged: “Strictly is a fix. Angela needs to go. Constantly overmarked and glorified. Adam clearly won that dance off.”

Adam and Luba both spoke warmly of their experience on Strictly following their elimination. Adam said: "Seven even incredible weeks, what a journey it's been. I honestly thought I was leaving in week two and the fact that I've got this far I'm so proud of myself, I've had an amazing time from start to finish.

"I came here to learn how to dance and I've learned so much more about myself. The confidence and self-belief I now have in myself, it's out of this world I have to thank all these guys up here. What a bunch to be on this journey with, I'm just very, very lucky! I know my kids are at home now probably crying, it's okay – Daddy's okay!

I just wanted to teach my kids that it's not just about winning or losing, it's about taking part and doing your best. [To Luba] I just want to say thank you to this one and I'm sorry, I wanted to get us to Blackpool!" Luba responded: "Don't be sorry, you are incredible, I had the best season."
