Strictly's Adam Thomas emotional as he says he did 'best he could'
Strictly Come Dancing star Adam Thomas has spoken about his future in the BBC dance competition after he was left at the bottom of the leaderboard on Saturday night.
The soap star, who made his name in ITV's Emmerdale and BBC's Waterloo Road, scored 27 for his rumba with professional dance partner Luba Mushtuk, which saw him at the bottom of the pile ahead of the public vote. The 35-year-old, whose dance brought tears to the eyes of his wife Caroline as he performed to their wedding song, was melancholic when speaking in a video on his social media on Saturday night, insisting that he would leave the competition with his "head held high" if he was eliminated.
In the awkward video, which Adam filmed backstage at the end of Saturday's Strictly show, the actor seemed resigned to his fate but asked fans to keep him in the competition with their votes. In the video, in which Adam speaks directly to the camera, he said: "This is awkward, I did the best I could do, I really did. The problem is like if I'm in the dance off now, I don't know what else I can do."
Adam continued: "But hey, it is what it is. Unfortunately my scores weren't great tonight. I felt I did a good job tonight, so I'm happy. So whatever happens tomorrow night, I can leave with my head held high but hopefully I'm not going to be leaving because all you guys are going to be voting for me. Come on guys, lets make it happen, get me to week eight."
On the night, it was Adam's fellow soap star, Ellie Leach, who plays Faye Windass in Coronation Street, who set the scoreboard alight with three perfect scores from the judges for her American Smooth with dance partner Vito Coppolo. West End star Layton Williams also received 10s from the judges for his show-stopping Jive with Nikita Kuzmin, which placed him close behind Ellie at the top.
EastEnders' Jake Wood's snap of son has fans pointing out the pair's likenessAdam has experienced the dreaded dance-off previously during this series, so will know what to expect if he's left in the bottom two after the public vote. Adam told It Takes Two host Janette Manrara about the nerve-racking moment he realised he would have to dance for his survival.
He said: "I don’t know what it was, I was sort of preparing myself for it. I don’t know what it was about that night especially, I just felt like it was going to be our night to be in the dance off," he said on the Strictly spin-off. But nothing can prepare you for the dance off. It was so daunting and I was so nervous, but you’ve got to keep thinking, ‘It’s just a dance show, go out there and do the same as you did in the first dance.’”
