A Palestinian doctor based in the UK has warned of disease and civil unrest spreading rapidly in “the hell of Gaza” as vital supplies run out.

Dr Mohamed Altawil, 49, has more than 100 relatives living in the country, including eight siblings.

He says they’re struggling to survive, with the bodies of his some of his wife’s relatives - killed in an Israeli air strike - still buried under rubble.

Dr Altawil, from Hatfield, Herts, says: “Things are very, very bad now - food, water, fuel, medical supplies, these are gone now. It is hell.

“My two brothers are in the middle of Gaza, I can speak to them sometimes and they tell me they are using some wood fuel to cook something, but there is barely anything. People were being given one and half litres of water for a family of 15, now people are being given a drop in their mouths.

“So now people are fighting over water and food - this is what’s starting to happen. No-one has any money, cash, to buy anything, if there are bank machines they are empty or destroyed, after a month no-one has money left and we cannot send any.

“I can’t speak to my sister - she was in the north - so I just don’t know if she is safe. I go to bed not knowing if my family are alive.

“Thirty-five of mine and my wife’s relatives have been killed - some of their bodies are still buried under rubble, who can get them, who can bury them This is creating disease too.

“My brothers say 20% of buildings have been destroyed and it doesn’t stop. Gaza has gone back a century. “There is no safe place, no safe routes, the world is seeing all of this. It’s hard to see a way out. We need a ceasefire now.”
