Of all the pesky household tasks we often put off, cleaning the oven is one of the hardest to face. Grime, greasy stains and all sorts of nasty stuff can gather if you put it off for too long - but how exactly to go about it is a question that puzzles many.

Those cookers which have self-cleaning functions can be somewhat easier to tackle, but it's nonetheless a job we all tend to put off. One woman has shared a clever life hack that can make it so much easier - and help you avoid scrubbing the appliance to death. The method also doesn't require expensive specialist products and can save you loads of time.

A TikToker who posts under the username nicolepaigelilly uses a sponge and dishwasher tablet to get rid of all the dirt from her cooker and make it look nice and shiny. Sharing the trick on the social platform, she said: “Push sides in and pull the top out to remove the glass. Be careful because the glass is what’s weighing the oven door!”

She continued: "Cut out the shape of the dishwasher tab in a sponge and put the tab in the sponge. Then scrub 'til clean. Still, some staining on the glass so will have to go over that with a Brillo pad later!" Nicole added in the comments: “Should also note make sure you wash everything down with water to remove any chemicals!”

And when asked how to clean the inside, she said you should 'remove the top layer of dirt with kitchen paper', and leave a dishwasher tablet to soak and scrub.

We recently told how another woman shared a tip that helps to clean a cooker's racks and hood filter. Posting on the Mums Who Clean Facebook group, she explained she used cornflour. "I can honestly say it's a pleasure to clean them when it's so easy"she said. "I use the same process for my oven racks, roast tray, greasy fry pans etc."
