Calling off a wedding is the last thing anyone wants to do when they've been gearing themselves up to spend their lives with someone they thought was special to them, but sometimes, relationships just don't work out the way we planned. And while most of us would be able to lean on our family and friends for support if we found ourselves in that situation. However, one bride doesn't have that luxury - because her guests are the reason the wedding is off.

The bride sent a scathing email to the people on her RSVP list telling them that her wedding was cancelled because not enough of them pledged to send her around £900 each to fund the cost of the "exclusive" ceremony. The woman, from Canada, had demanded $1,500 Canadian dollars (£891) from each of her guests in lieu of a gift, but when most people declined to pay the staggering amount, she axed the entire wedding.

In the email, which was originally shared in a Facebook post from 2019 before being reposted to social media sites including Mumsnet and X (formerly known as Twitter), the bride named Susan wrote: "Dear friends, it comes with great sadness that I am announcing the cancellation of the wedding. I apologise for cancelling only four days beforehand. Unfortunately, [fiance] and I have broken up due to some recent and irreparable problems. We have decided to end our relationship and not go forth with any future proceedings."

She then went on to blame her guests for the cancellation, writing: "I specifically, I mean specifically asked for cash gifts. How could we have the wedding that we dreamed of without proper funding? We'd sacrificed so much and only asked each guest for around $1,500. My maid of honour pledged $5,000 along with her planning services. We tearfully thanked and accepted. My ex's family offered to contribute $3,000.

"So our request for $1,500 for all other guests was not f***ing out of the ordinary. Like, we made it clear. If you couldn't contribute, you weren't invited to our exclusive wedding. It's once in a lifetime party. After sending out the invitations, only eight guests RSVP'd with their cheque of $1,500. We were f***ing livid."

To combat the financial gap, Susan's fiancé suggested they have a cheap and cheerful wedding in Las Vegas instead, to which she "laughed in his face". And to make matters worse, the cash offers she received from her maid of honour and the groom's family were retracted, leaving the couple with no cash for their big day.

Eventually, even her fiancé decided enough was enough, and, as she discovered, called her a "stuck-up b***h". The epic, expletive-ridden rant was then topped off by her telling everyone she was spending October and November "backpacking in South America".
