Inside Meghan and Harry's first Halloween 'to remember' before they went public
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle enjoyed a Halloween to remember before going public with their romance back in 2016.
In the first episode of their controversial Netflix docu-series Harry & Meghan, the pair retold their love story and looked back fondly at photos from October 2016. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrated Halloween together in what was one of their last private nights together before going public with the news of their relationship.
In July, Harry was told by palace communications secretary Jason Knauf that a story about their relationship was about to break. With the bombshell imminent, the couple decided to "pull the pin on the fun grenade," according to Harry.
They enjoyed a fun night out in Toronto, where Meghan was filming Suits, with Princess Eugenie and her then-boyfriend, Jack Brooksbank. Harry and Meghan wore a army-inspired costumes made up of masks that covered their faces. In one snap, Meghan is seen cosying up to Princess Eugenie, who looks unrecognisable in an orange scarf and black eyeliner smudged around her eyes.

Meghan and Harry were inspired by Mad Max (NETFLIX)Meghan spoke about the night on a November 2021 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, sharing that the foursome wore "very bizarre" costumes and "were able to just sort of have one final, fun night out." She said: "He came to see me in Toronto and our friends and his cousin Eugenie and now her husband Jack, they came as well.
"And the four of us snuck out in Halloween costumes to just have one fun night on the town before it was out in the world that we were a couple. It was a post-apocalypse theme. So we had all this very bizarre costuming on and we were able to just sort of have one final fun night out."
They went out with Princess Eugenie and her now-husband (NETFLIX)In her chat with Ellen, Meghan has spoken more about her immediate family – revealing her daughter has started teething at the time. While she has taken more walks down memory lane to reflect on her past as an actress. Recalling how things have changed since last she appeared at the Warner Bros Lot where the Ellen Degeneres show is filmed, Meghan laughed: “I would park on gate three and I would scoot on over and the security guards here would always say ‘break a leg, I hope you get it.’ So driving today was very different.”
Meghan goes on to recall driving around in a battered old car while struggling as an actress – and being too poor to have her busted car door fixed.
