Lidl recalls popular product as label doesn't warn it contains a key ingredient

A cabbage product at Lidl has been recalled because the label doesn't say it contains milk.

Food Standards Agency says the Deluxe Red Cabbage with Apple, Dried Cranberries & Spices is therefore a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk products. Anyone with a dairy allergy who has bought it should return the product for a full refund. All date codes and batch codes of the 480g packs shouldn't be consumed by anyone with an allergy or intolerance, Food Standards Agency stresses.

It says: "This product contains milk making them a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents."

The warning adds: "Lidl GB is recalling Deluxe Red Cabbage with Apple, Dried Cranberries & Spices because it contains milk, which is not emphasised, (in bold), on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

"Lidl GB is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice.

"If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For more information, please contact Customer Care on [email protected] or 0203 966 5566"

Food recalls happen when customers are asked to return products. Withdrawals occur when products are taken off shelves at supermarkets.

"Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert," Food Standards Agency adds.
