A woman was shocked after her cousin accused her of ruining her wedding - because she had an allergic reaction to peanuts.

The bride had confirmed the meal was nut-free but the wedding guest had to whip out her epi-pen during the meal after eating something she was allergic to.

The bride said she stole the limelight away from her in a text message and did not even offer an apology for endangering her life.

Taking to Reddit, the woman asked for advice on whether she was 'selfish' for going to the hospital after having the allergic reaction or if the bride should have acted differently.

The woman, who remained anonymous, explained: "I am allergic to peanuts so two days before the wedding I asked her if there were any dishes served that had peanuts in it so that I could avoid eating that.

"She told me she'll check with the caterers and inform me on the day of the wedding. Fast forward on the day I asked her which dishes had the nut in it and she told me none of them did."

She added that after the lunch she started to feel her throat closing along with irritated skin as she was having an allergic reaction, and need to use her epi-pen.

This is a device which can be used for acute allergic reactions and is a dose of adrenaline which can be injected into the body to keep the sufferer being able to breathe.

The woman added: "All this had attracted quite the attention and people were surrounding me. I was fine but went to the hospital just to be safe.

"I later got texts from the bride and her siblings saying how it was incredibly selfish of me to steal the attention from the bride and a bunch of cuss words.

"My family thinks it was her who endangered my life and should apologise. She says I should have just sucked it up. I was sure I wasn't in the wrong but now I'm not so sure."

In response, many commenters have rushed to her side and said the bride was being selfish and unreasonable.

One person wrote: "She wasn’t asking for special catering, she only wanted to know what dishes to avoid. A totally reasonable request."

While another quipped: "Wow, how selfish of you to steal the spotlight with your anaphylactic shock. Maybe next time, leave your allergies at home."
