Home Under the Hammer will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a host of stars fronting the series.

The BBC One series, which first aired on BBC One in 2003, will have celebrity guests host special episodes. Memorable moments from its archive, as well as a double bill, will also air on the anniversary. The stars chosen were already big fans of the programme and will be sharing their ideas and knowledge about the properties.

Kicking off the anniversary celebrations is Martin Roberts, who hosted the show since 2003, alongside Changing Rooms star Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen in Bristol, followed by Martel Maxwell and The One Show host Alex Jones in London.

Fashion expert Laurence offers advice on recycling an old-school bathroom suite and Alex shows her love the its original features. It isn't complete without the celebrities saying the iconic phrase: "Let’s find out what happened when it went under the hammer" before meeting up with the new owners.

Speaking about the 20th anniversary, Martin said: "Who would have thought back in 2003 when I uttered those immortal lines ‘let’s find out what happened when it went ‘under the hammer’ for the first time, that I’d still be saying them 20 years on? But I am. And I’m so very proud to have been part of this much-loved show that’s been bringing entertainment and inspiration to viewers for a spectacularly long time."

He also tweeted to tease fans: "I don’t want to start too much of a rumour mill, but just to say we are finalising something very VERY exciting to celebrate the anniversary of an incredible 20 years of Homes under the Hammer in November. Watch this space." Fans rushed to the comment section to share their delight.

One user said: "20 years that’s amazing," while another posted: "Still watch it religiously. Would love to have the job of picking the music for the episodes! Congratulations on 20 years."

Dion added: "20 years of Homes Under the Hammer, and we’re still going strong. A Juggernaut of a show that never seems to get old, and people absolutely love. I’m so privileged to be a part of it for the last nine years, it’s a special show and long may it continue… for another 20 years!"

Each of the five episodes will have a special celebrity host, a new property as well as a memorable moment from their archives. The full list of celebrities includes Alex Jones, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Toyah Willcox, BBC Radio 2's Owain Wyn Evans and Amanda Lovett.
