BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood missing from show after engagement speculation

BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood was noticeably absent from the show on Friday morning sending viewers into meltdown over her whereabouts.

Her co-star Sarah Keith-Lucas stepped in to fill her shoes during the weather segment of the BBC morning programme. The show was hosted as usual by Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. Carol's absence comes after viewers expressed concern over Carol's missing engagement ring during a previous broadcast.

Last week, Carol's engagement ring was missing as she broadcasted from Blenheim Palace while standing in a polytunnel. Fans instantly noticed the missing item of jewellery as they flocked to social media to share their thoughts on the matter.

As the nation was gripped by horrific weather, one viewer asked: "The red warning is serious. But not as worrying as Carol Kirkwood not wearing her engagement ring on BBC Breakfast this morning. Hope all is OK?" Another commented: "The red warning for many parts of the UK, especially NE Scotland is deeply worrying. But, so too is the absence of Carol Kirkwood’s engagement ring on Breakfast TV this morning. I hope that’s not her personal red warning."

However, fans were relieved when they spotted the sparkling ring back on her hand earlier this week. One viewer wrote: "Morning, relieved to see your ring back in place. Thought you had been let down."

Carol announced her engagement to former police officer Steve Randall last year live on BBC Breakfast. She almost spoiled the big moment as she didn't believe he was really proposing. "It was a lovely, sunny day and we had taken a picnic with us, and we were sitting by the river, watching the boats going by."

"I turned to say: 'What's wrong?' He was on his knee, and he proposed. At first, I thought he was joking, but he said: 'No no, I really do mean it, Will you marry me?' I said: 'Yes!! Of course! The weather presenter told Best magazine earlier this year: "We know we are definitely going to get married we just haven't sorted out the details yet. We're just enjoying being engaged to be honest."

Speaking to the Mirror, Carol recently revealed the sweet way that Steve wakes her up for the early morning shifts. Steve is a "kind" man, she explained and told us that he makes her a cup of tea when her alarm goes off at an eye-wateringly early 2.45 am every weekday. "Even though I say to him every time, 'Don't get up, you go back to sleep,' he always insists on getting me my tea," she beamed.
