Steph McGovern's life off-screen from mystery partner to cheeky lie for BBC job
Fans of Steph McGovern are disappointed to hear her warm and chatty Channel 4 show, Steph's Packed Lunch, will be coming to an end in December. The broadcaster announced today that it had made the 'difficult decision' to not recommission the series, so Steph will be moving onto the next chapter in her career in the New Year - though it's unknown yet what that will be.
Steph, 41, has been a regular face on our screens for over a decade, presenting BBC Breakfast, Watchdog and Have I Got News For You. The much-loved TV host tends to keep her home and family out of the spotlight, though over the years, she has given rare insights into her life as a mum-of-one away from the cameras.

In July 2019, Steph announced she was pregnant and a source told The Sun: "Steph and her girlfriend are absolutely thrilled." Then four months later, she welcomed her daughter into the world and said: "I have a newfound respect for parents. It's like you're living with a tiny dictator!"
In keeping with how she went about before, Steph kept her newborn baby girl out of the spotlight, but earlier this month, she did share a sweet snap on social media. She chose to keep her daughter's face hidden but revealed the three-year-old's silhouette with the caption: "Making memories with my little girl on the beach near where we live." In a previous interview, Steph explained why she prefers to keep her close ones private. "I would just get too mad if I started reading negative things about them. My daughter has no choice and my partner's not in the public eye, so I wouldn't want to subject them to the opinions of others," she told the Express.
Steph has spoken about her future plans and said she doesn't think more children are on the cards (Channel 4)Though she is keen to normalise talking about different family dynamics. "I don't go around shouting, 'My name's Steph and I'm gay!' But I will talk about the fact I have a partner and a daughter, because that is my normal life," she told the Mirror. "The more we talk about our families, the more normal it becomes for everyone to see different families. That's the key to taking away prejudice. If someone says, 'Oh, Steph's gay, and she's got a little girl', but they think I'm alright, then that's great. I like to show people my life is normal - albeit with a hint of madness in the form of telly!"

Steph keeps her cards close to her chest about her future plans, but revealed to Woman & Home magazine in 2022: "I don't think more children are on the cards. It's a bit like the Strictly question. It feels like a no but I'm not going to say a definitive no because you don't know."
Steph's first taste of working at the BBC came when she was just 19 as she made a guest appearance on a programme about women in science. She then started work experience on Tomorrow's World and eventually went on to become a part-time researcher while she studied. In 2010, she joined BBC Breakfast and revealed over a decade later that she actually told a cheeky fib to bag the role. On an instalment of Steph's Packed Lunch in 2021, she said: "I remember when I got the job of presenting Breakfast news, I'd been asked, 'Have you ever done live TV before?' And I said yes… And I hadn't," she said.
