Hannah Waddingham says she used 'Eastern medicine' to fall pregnant at 39

Actress Hannah Waddingham has revealed that she sought the help of Eastern medicine to fall pregnant after Western doctors to her "there was no chance of you getting pregnant".

The 49 year old star, who is famed for her roles in a number of Hollywood films including Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two, said that she underwent a medical exam ahead of starring in a show in 2012 and was told that her egg count was too low to conceive. But determined to be blessed with the chance of being a mum, the British star decided to look elsewhere for a second opinion - which led her to look into Eastern medicine.

In a recent interview, she said: "I did a medical screening before joining a TV show in 2012, and the general medical came back saying that I had low fertility. So, I went to see a private male doctor, who glibly said, ‘There’s no chance of you getting pregnant. Your egg count is too low’. Which then truly put the bit between my teeth."

Speaking to Glamour magazine, the star who co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contestant alongside Alesha Dixon and Graham Norton, added: "I’m a firm believer that we earn money for those times when we need it most. So, I looked to Eastern medicine and found a wonderful practitioner, who did a holistic exam on me and had all my metals and minerals tested. And the Eastern practitioner said, 'I think we just need to address your magnesium and copper levels'. I didn’t even know you have copper in your body!"

In the candid interview, which is likely to resonate with a number of women the world over, she explained that the Western doctor she had seen was trying to treat her low fertility with chemicals, whereas the Eastern doctor treated her with alternative methods such as acupuncture and Reiki. She claimed that she found the Western doctor to be "abrupt " and "jabbed me with injections". She was also told to take a number of tablets on the first day of her next period. But she decided to not take the medicine and fortunately fell pregnant with her first child. She added: "I was pregnant and I took my baby daughter home from the hospital on my 40th birthday."

But she went on to say that being a mum in her forties is in fact a lot harder than she thought. She continued to say that "it’s quite exhausting. One of the greatest acting jobs in my life is pretending I have energy to my daughter! " As a single mother, Hannah admitted that it adds to the struggle but fortunately she is on good terms with her daughter's father. The couple separated when their daughter was only two and a half years old. However, she was determined to not let the situation weaken her.
