Mum dies while taking part in marshmallow eating contest as inquest probes death
A mum choked to death in a marshmallow eating contest on stage, an inquest has heard.
Natalie Buss was stuffing the sweets into her mouth as part of the challenge when she collapsed on Saturday, October 7. The 37-year-old was at a fundraising night at her local rugby club in Beddau, South Wales, when the family event turned to tragedy.
Mrs Buss had been invited on stage to take part, and collapsed in a corridor outside after filling her mouth with marshmallows, which participants were competing to stuff as many as possible in their mouths. An inquest opening at Pontypridd coroners court heard CPR was carried out on the mum as horrified eyewitnesses realised she was choking.
Paramedics were called to the scene but tragically Mrs Buss couldn't be saved. The brief hearing on Wednesday heard Mrs Buss' husband was called to identify her the following day, with a post-mortem carried at Glamorgan Hospital.
Pathologists have yet to confirm her cause of death and investigation is now to be carried out, Wales Online reports. Coroner for South Wales Central, Patricia Morgan, said there was "reason to believe her death was unnatural in nature".

Ms Morgan adjourned the inquest for further investigations to be carried out. She added: "I take the opportunity to express my condolences to the family of Natalie Louise Buss at this tragic time." Flowers were left at the scene following the tragic event as the rugby club issued a statement saying staff were "nothing less than devastated".
One set of flowers left at the club said: "I'm awfully sorry for the loss of a lovely lady. She will be missed by everyone. Forever in our thoughts." In a Facebook statement, Beddau RFC said: "The club and the Beddau community are heartbroken. On Saturday night we lost a very dear friend who will be sadly missed.
"Everybody associated with Beddau RFC and within the community are nothing less than devastated at the weekend's tragic accident and we struggle to comprehend the sense of loss people are feeling."
It added: "That said we must acknowledge that our loss pales into insignificance in comparison to the loss of a lady who was a wonderful wife, mother, and daughter to what was an absolutely tragic turn of events. As a club we send out our sincerest, heartfelt condolences to all the family, the close friends, and to all those that this has so badly impacted."
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, which regulates health and safety issues in the area, is investigating the incident. Pontypridd MP Alex Davies-Jones said in a social media post: "My heart goes out to all those affected and my thoughts are with their family and friends."
