Coleen Rooney has spoken for the first time about her beloved late sister Rosie, breaking down in tears as she said losing her was "the worst thing that could happen".

Rosie died aged 14 back in 2013 after a lifelong battle with the rare brain disorder Rett syndrome - which causes severe disabilities. Coleen's mum Colette told a new Disney+ documentary that her daughter Coleen "keeps things to herself".

Colette added: "She doesn't want to be a burden. And I think that's a coping mechanism of hers. And I can relate that back to Rosie. Rosie is Coleen's sister, though she was adopted. She was so special.

"We got involved with the home from home charity so we started taking children in to give the parents a break. We had loads of kids."

Coleen added: "Rosie then came and that was different. When Rosie came along she was a massive part of our life. She was a sister that I never thought I was going to have.

"I used to do her hair and love picking clothes with me mum for her. She brought that little bit extra to the house. We fell in love with her."

Coleen's parents adopted Rosie when she was two, knowing she was disabled. Sadly her health got worse as time when on.

Coleen added: "Rosie she struggled. She couldn't walk and she couldn't talk. She would be in pain and sick but she would still put a smile on her face.

"Rett syndrome is a genetic disorder, sometimes she used to force a laugh out, I think to make me mum and dad happy. Gradually her brain wasn't functioning and she couldn't eat anymore, she couldn't crawl anymore."

Coleen's mum then explained how Rosie was forced to go to intensive care several times as she got more and more sick. But they arranged for her to come back to their home in Liverpool for her last few days and they had "one last sleepover" and then a party to celebrate her life.

In tears Coleen added: "To lose a child is the worst thing that could ever happen to anyone. But when you look back now, she gave us so many good years of happiness and love."

Mum Colette said: "It's been 10 years now and Coleen has never spoken about it much. In America [when Coleen was there with husband Wayne in 2018] she had a lot of time so she must have done a lot of thinking there. But she hides a lot, so it would be hard to say what is going on in her mind."

Coleen added: "Because of the things that have happened to my life, I try and be strong for others. I don't want people worrying about me when they've got their own worries in life. But sometimes I can crack."

In an article for a newspaper in May 2009, Coleen described how her family coped with looking after Rosie once the child's health began to get worse. One passage read: "Today Rosie can't walk or talk. She can't eat, so she's fed through a tube that goes into her stomach. She has good days and bad days and her health can change from hour to hour. One minute she can be laughing and happy; the next she can be having a fit."

In that same year, the McLoughlin family including Coleen made a pilgrimage to Lourdes to pray for Rosie's health. Coleen paid tribute to her late younger sister on the 10-year anniversary of her death on social media with a message and a photo in January.

This section of the new documentary shows a different side to Coleen, as the majority of the film concentrates on her legal battle with fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy. Fans dubbed Coleen Wagatha Christie after she used detective skills to determine Rebekah was leaking information from her private instagram account.

Rebekah also did use Rosie's name in messages sent to her agent Caroline Watt seen in the court case. Rebekah said she didn't normally contact Coleen out of the blue and "maybe I should say something about Rosie".

In the documentary, Coleen said: "To plan to create a story, to get me to reply back is one thing, but to use my sister who has passed away was just wrong."
