Roblox is already rivalling Call of Duty and Fortnite on PS4
Roblox, the massive multiplayer title, is already confirmed to be a smash success on Sony’s console, at least according to certain industry analysts.
Following almost a decade’s worth of console exclusivity on Xbox, massive multiplayer hit and game-making tool Roblox finally landed on PlayStation earlier this month. Though only available as a PS4 version (yet playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility) industry insiders are already tracking Roblox to be an immense success, rivalling some of the most popular online games in the world in terms of sheer player count.
Knowledge of Roblox’s early success on PlayStation comes courtesy of Mat Piscatella, executive director and video game industry analyst at NPD, who revealed some key figures and stats in a Twitter post. “Roblox had a huge debut week on PlayStation,” he said. “During its launch week Roblox ranked 3rd in percentage of PlayStation players that played the title at least once.”
Perhaps most impressive of all, however, was that Roblox almost even managed to topple some of the most popular games on Sony’s platform. “Only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Fortnite ranked higher,” during the week of Roblox’s initial launch. No official numbers are mentioned by Piscatella specifically, but given that in excess of 117 million PS4 consoles have been sold and it ranked 3rd on the platform, we can guess the number of players to have tried Roblox on PlayStation to be in the millions.
Built to order
After Roblox was announced to be coming to PlayStation following the most recent State of Play livestream, expectations were high that Roblox would perform well. Roblox itself has stated that over 65 million people play the game on a daily basis, so it’s unsurprising to see this success matched so early on a new console platform. The fact that Roblox is already making for the Call of Duty and Fortnite crown is still nothing to sniff at though.
Why Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's six week delay is a good thingIn addition to the new PS4 version, Roblox recently announced that it will soon be upgrading the Xbox edition of the game. After all, it initially launched on Xbox One way back in 2015, so making the most of the Xbox Series X’s features with an improved user experience is probably a good idea. There’s still no word on whether a dedicated PS5 version is currently in the works.
