Jonnie Irwin admits he 'probably should have stayed inside' with nasty infection
Jonnie Irwin has revealed he 'probably should have stayed inside' after enjoying a special outdoor activity with his family despite battling an ongoing infection.
The former A Place in the Sun presenter, who is also living with terminal cancer, took to Instagram on Monday to share a carousel of wholesome photos from a recent trip with his wife, Jessica Holmes, and their three sons, Rex, 4, and three-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac.
In the sweet snaps, Jonnie and the former accounts manager can be seen with their young children at their uncle's plot of land, scavenging for pumpkins ahead of the Halloween season. The Escape to the Country star admitted that it might have been wise to skip the activity, but was afraid he'd feel left out if he didn't go along.
"Probs should’ve stayed inside with my chest infection but would’ve got too much FOMO missing out on visiting uncle @maccaholmes allotment," he captioned the post. "Sometimes I need a push and seeing the lads enjoy picking some apples, and pumpkins was superb. Unfortunately feeding @jessofjesmond obsession with Halloween is a downside!"
The update comes shortly after Jonnie, who broke the devastating news his cancer was terminal last November, headed to Newcastle Upon Tyne to film a new property renovation show for the BBC.
EastEnders' Jake Wood's snap of son has fans pointing out the pair's likenessIt didn't take long for the travel expert's followers to react to his sweet dad post, with many commenting on how happy his young sons looked in the photos. "Obviously great day out had by all," one person wrote, before adding, "the boys are in their element."
Others sent Jonnie wishes to feel better soon, offering him advice on chest infections and urging him to go easy on himself as the weather gets cooler. "Take care don’t push yourself too much if you have an infection," one follower said, while another suggested, "Try to cover your mouth and not breath in the cold air."
Jessica, 40, also posted snippets from the outing on her own Instagram account, where she regularly shares pictures of her family life with her 2,110 followers.
"We all descended on Uncle Macca’s allotment to pick our pumpkins," she captioned her update, before adding that a "flask of tea and croissants meant 2 hours of lovely bright family fun."
In June, Jonnie revealed that he had not told his sons about his terminal cancer. "I keep being asked, ‘Are you going to tell them?’ but tell them what?" he said during an interview on the podcast OneChat. "It would be horrible news that they’d have to get their heads around. And it would confuse the hell out of Rex – he’s got a shocking enough day coming. Let’s bury our heads in the sand for as long as possible."
