Raphael Varane slammed as Manchester United's Andre Onana transfer explained
Manchester United have endured a difficult start to the new season and will be hoping things improve when they return to action after the international break.
United have already suffered six defeats across all competitions, leaving them tenth in the Premier League and bottom of their Champions League group. Before the break, Erik ten Hag's side suffered back-to-back defeats to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray and needed a stoppage-time brace from Scott McTominay to complete a comeback win over Brentford.
They are not back in action until October 21, when they travel to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United who currently sit bottom of the league. With all that in mind, here are the latest headlines from Old Trafford...
Varane slammed
Tim Sherwood has claimed Raphael Varane "has not done anything" at United, having joined the club two years from Real Madrid.
"For me, Varane (gets) away with it," Sherwood told Premier League Productions. "He has not done anything since he's been at that football club. We talk about (Bukayo) Saka when people say, 'Consecutive games, he needs a rest, he needs a rest'.
Marcel Sabitzer completes Man Utd transfer after last-minute deadline day dash"This boy (Varane) is in, he's out, he's injured again. I think there's no durability there. What's he done for Manchester United? I think there are far too many of them (not doing enough). But we're alright getting on the back of Harry Maguire, we'll have a little pop at him."

Onana transfer explained
Andre Onana has struggled since joining United as David de Gea's replacement this summer and ESPN have revealed why the Red Devils opted to buy him over two other potential options.
According to the report, both David Raya and Diogo Costa were on United's radar before they forked out £47million to sign him from Inter Milan. However, Raya ended up joining Arsenal from Brentford, while Costa is still plying his trade at Porto.
And the report states that Onana's personality and impressive form for Inter as they reached last season's Champions League final played a big part in United's decision, with the 27-year-old's character 'setting him apart from other options'.

Contract updates
United are reportedly set to trigger contract extensions for Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but are undecided over the future of Anthony Martial.
ESPN state that United are 'keeping their options open' with the Frenchman, who would have been allowed to leave over the summer but rejected an approach from the Saudi Pro League.
His contract is due to expire at the end of the season, but United do have an option to extend it for a further year. Both Lindelof and Wan-Bissaka are in similar situations, but United are ready to trigger their options and extend their contracts until 2025.
