PS5 Slim – release, price, specs, and everything we know
Sony has finally revealed the PS5 Slim, which will be replacing the current PS5 console soon enough. Here's everything we know about the latest PlayStation console.
The release of the PS5 Slim is just on the horizon, with Sony confirming a November release date earlier this week. Rumours about the PS5 Slim console had been circulating since late last year, with reports suggesting it would feature a new attachable disc drive, differing it from the current model. We've been sure to do a full breakdown of the differences between the PS5 Slim vs PS5 for those who are considering replacing their current console.
Paired with the PS5 Slim announcement was the news that current PS5 models will no longer be sold once the current stock depletes. This was something we had already theorised following the PlayStation Summer Sale that saw the PS5 price drop to an all-time low. It seemed like Sony was clearing out PS5 stock in order to replace it with the new SKU. So here's everything we know about the PS5 Slim including release date, price and specs.
PS5 Slim release date and pre-orders
Given the PS4 Slim was released just under three years after the PS4, it makes sense that the PS5 Slim release date will fall around the same time period after the initial PS5 launch.
All we know so far about the PS5 Slim release date is the fact that it will be sometime in November, with Sony yet to confirm a specific day just yet. PS5 Slim pre-orders will open soon, with Sony stating that they intend to start these in the US first and then roll them out to the rest of the world shortly after.

Our tentative prediction is that the PS5 Slim could be released on November 15, as this would coincide with the release of Sony's new portable gaming device, PlayStation Portal.

The PS5 Slim specs are identical to those of the PS5, aside from the external dimensions and weight which are smaller to make the new console more streamlined. This means that the processing power will be exactly the same, but something to keep in mind about smaller consoles is that they may be more prone to overheating due to components being closer together.

The main difference that the PS5 Slim will feature is the attachable UHD Blu-ray disc drive which can be purchased with the console itself, or on its own if you opt for the Digital Edition and then change your mind later down the line. The attachable disc drive connects straight to the side of the PS5 Slim console.
PS5 Slim price
Sony has confirmed the PS5 Slim price; the PS5 Slim with the disc drive included costs £479.99 / $499.99, while the PS5 Slim Digital Edition is priced at £389.99 / $449.99.
We haven't got confirmation of the PS5 Slim price in Australia but given that these figures are in the same ballpark as the current PS5 pricing, we can the PS5 Slim Australian price will be AU$799.99 for the disc version and AU$649.95 for the PS5 Slim Digital Edition.
The PS5 Slim attachable disc drive can be picked up for £99.99 / $79.99 which converts to roughly AU$125.
