Diogo Dalot said Manchester United's dramatic late win proved Erik ten Hag's players have the character to turn their season around.

Scott McTominay's double in added time ended United's losing run, with defender Dalot claiming the fight and spirit showed the squad are all on the same page. “It shows we are here to fight, to suffer together,” he said.

“The fans were behind us every step of the day and I think this can be a turning point - we want to look at this as a turning point. We know it will be difficult, but that’s what it’s like being a Manchester United player and I think today was good proof that we can fight to the end.

“When you win a game like this, you get to the dressing-room excited, you can look at everybody and everybody was - you could see they gave everything. At half-time we kept calm and we listened to what the manager said and we kept fighting. Then, when Scott came in with the energy and mentality he has, it shows we're a proper team and I'm really happy for him.”

Reflecting on McTominay's match-winning late cameo, Dalot said: “Since I arrived here, I've looked to Scott and I see a lot of myself in him. He's a player you can always count on if he starts or is on the bench for a few games.

"He always comes in and gives his best for the team. He's a fantastic player, he could easily have played every weekend with us and he shows that."

A host of United's players will not head off on international duty, before returning to a critical period. The Red Devils go to Sheffield United on October 21, ahead of a must win Champions League clash with Copenhagen and a derby trip to Manchester City.

And Erik ten Hag himself has said the Brentford win now has to serve as a 'turning point' in their stuttering season: "It showed the big character in this team, the resilience, and that we have a plan to keep going and you have to make your own luck," he said.

"We kept patient and carried on. I'm really proud of this team, they kept going the whole game. The belief was there. This has to be a turning point but also it has to be a restart because we have to get into higher levels."
