Activision has delayed the Warzone Mobile release date to Spring 2024. It also confirmed that Rebirth Island will return to the game.

COD Next 2023 was filled with news about Activision's upcoming Call of Duty titles including Modern Warfare 3 gameplay, the debut of the new Call of Duty Zombies, and the new Warzone map, Urzikstan. We were also expecting an update on Warzone Mobile – specifically a release date, and while Activision did confirm ahead of time that we'd see Warzone Mobile in action, it sadly didn't prepare us for the news that the long-awaited mobile game would be delayed to 2024.

Previously, the Warzone Mobile release date was confirmed for autumn 2023 during the course of the litigations surrounding the Microsoft Activison deal; a placeholder date in the App store changing from May 2023, to being out by November 1, 2023. Turns out these weren't quite on the money as the spring 2024 date is still quite a bit away, and definitely not a part of autumn 2023 as previously noted.

To tide fans over in the meantime it was confirmed that Resurgence mode and Rebirth Island will be making a comeback in Warzone Mobile alongside Verdansk, as well as delving into the mobile Royale mode which scales the battle royale experience down into smaller chunks more suited for mobile gaming.

On the go

Looking at the success of Call of Duty Mobile, and that Fortnite, Apex Legends, and PUBG Battlegrounds all have successful mobile versions, this feels like a long overdue move from Activision. But considering just how late this version is releasing, you have to wonder if Warzone Mobile can make a big impact in the mobile battle royale market.

The PC and console version of Warzone managed to join the market after Fortnite, Apex Legends, and PUBG Battlegrounds were already dominating; perhaps the same feat will be repeated here, but the more time it takes the harder the market is to get into.

Then there's the elephant in the room: Warzone has been disappointing players since the launch of Modern Warfare 2. Hopefully Warzone Mobile fares better than its console counterpart. The game is set to feature a lot of the same maps and modes from the original Warzone – which was far more beloved – so this could what sets it up for success.
