Sci-fi psychological thriller No One Will Save You has crash-landed on Disney Plus , with critics already swept away by its sheer intensity and originality.

Legendary horror writer Stephen King has been very quick to sing its praises, taking to X, formerly Twitter, to say: "Brilliant, daring, involving, scary. You have to go back over 60 years, to a TWILIGHT ZONE episode called "The Invaders," to find anything remotely like it. Truly unique."

No One Will Save You is a captivating, action-packed experience as told through the eyes of a lonely young woman with a heart-wrenching backstory. In a 90 virtually wordless minutes, Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated star Kaitlyn Dever works extremely hard to pull us into its gripping alien invasion story.

Dever plays heroine Brynn who finds solace within the walls of the home where she grew up, until she's awakened one night by strange noises from a host of extra-terrestrial beings who threaten her future while forcing her to deal with her past.

Written and directed by Brian Duffield (Underwater, Love and Monsters), he said of the movie: "I wanted it to take the lead of a small intimate character study with a painful backstory. The end of the world won't only be for those that are ready for it, and the idea of an alien movie rudely bursting the bubble our character has spent years building and cultivating felt like a unique way to tell a favourite story."

So far, No One Will Save You has a healthy 80 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics largely enamoured by its unique and clever take on the well-worn alien invasion theme.

Jeff York of The Establishing Shot described it as 'one of the year’s best horror movies, not to mention one of 2023’s very best, period', while Elliott Collins of Movie Files posted: 'This was an incredibly unique and clever take on the home/alien invasion (theme) with great direction and a home run of a performance from Kaitlyn Dever. The sound design is top notch. This is a lean, 90 minute creative and thrilling experience that I can’t recommend enough'.

Elsewhere, The Hollywood Reporter hailed the film as a 'singularly intense experience' and said Dever 'handles the extreme emotional and physical demands of her role in powerhouse fashion', making her performance 'a virtuoso turn'.

Digital Spy gave No One Will Save You 4/5 stars, calling it both 'one of the best surprises of the year' and 'something that you'll want to experience again and again'.

IGN, however, were rather more cautious in their praise, awarding the flick a so-so 6/10. They were bowled over by Dever's performance, but argued the film paid rather too much homage to other alien invasion movies such as the Donald Sutherland classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers or Steven Spielberg's bar-raising Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
