When it comes to choosing a name for your child, it's not unusual to take inspiration from films, TV shows, or books that might have had a lasting impact on your life.

After former Love Island stars Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury recently welcomed their daughter Bambi, many other parents who also named their children after Disney characters have been sharing the stories behind their kids' names.

One mum, Becky Roberts, said she picked a Disney-themed name for her daughter after sitting down to watch some films she'd bought for her little one while she was pregnant, as she "fell in love" with the name Kiara - which is the name of Simba's daughter in The Lion King sequel, The Liong King II: Simba's Pride.

Becky, 28, then decided to give her daughter the middle name Rose, which also has Disney connections as she took it from the mystical flower, the Enchanted Rose, featured in Beauty and the Beast.

The mum insisted Kiara Rose, now 7, has grown up to be just as big a fan of the films that inspired her name as her mum and dad are.

She said: "While I was pregnant, I started a collection of Disney DVDs for my daughter to have on her shelf. When I was buying the DVDs, I started watching one a day while her dad was out working.

"After watching Lion King 2, I remembered my dad buying me a stuffed Kiara toy at the Heathrow Disney store when I was little.

"Her dad and I both fell in love with the name - I Googled it and found out it was similar to the Irish name 'Ciara'. But I wanted to spell it in the same way as Kiara from the movie.

"When she was born, we gave her a stuffed Kiara toy we found in America, as well as a toy rose from Beauty and the Beast. She loves the movies now too!"

Although Becky, from Thatcham, Berkshire, and her then-partner both loved the name from the beginning, the mum admitted her family and friends "turned their noses up" at the choice.

She added: "A lot of people, like my family, turned their noses up at it and kept saying things like 'what sort of a name is that?' No one really liked it apart from me and my partner.

"We knew it was going to be an unusual name from the start because people were quite shocked. The only other 'person' I've met called Kiara was actually a dog."

But thankfully, Becky's loved ones changed their minds as soon as Kiara was born.

"They finally agree it's an amazing name and it really suits her," she said.

Seven years later, most of Kiara's original DVD collection has unfortunately been lost during a move to a new house, but Becky is determined to give her daughter plenty of Disney-related merch.

She said: "She has loads of Disney toys and clothes - and she loves Disney+. In March, we'll even be taking her to the Disney store in London so she can spend all of her birthday money."
