Conor McGregor has made a mega €1million donation to his beloved Crumlin Boxing Club in Dublin.

The Irishman is currently out of action and hasn't fought for over a year since breaking his leg in defeat to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. His return is hugely anticipated around the world, including back home in his native Ireland where he is considered arguably the biggest sporting superstar in the modern era.

McGregor has returned to training back in Dublin between periods of travelling around the globe both on holiday and to film for his new acting role. However McGregor certainly hasn't forgotten his roots with news emerging on social media that McGregor has made a generous gesture to his former boxing club.

The high-profile gym released a statement on TikTok which read: “Conor McGregor paid €1,000.000 to get Crumlin Boxing Club extended making it the best boxing club on the planet and with the best three coaches also, Philip, Bra, and Stephen.” The training base already has a worldwide reputation given its role in helping McGregor grow into a hugely successful MMA fighter.

The club holds a special place in McGregor's heart which is clear to see from the lucrative donation, given its significant role in his growth to hold two titles in both Cage Warriors and the UFC. McGregor also used his experience gained from the club to make a huge leap into the world of boxing, where he faced legend Floyd Mayweather in a hugely successful clash in 2017.

It is expected the club will now use the huge chunk of funding to entirely renovate the premises making it two floors higher as part of plans to make it the best training base in the world. McGregor has spoken of how he developed his striking fundamentals with trainer Phil Sutcliffe which he carried into his MMA career.

The 34-year-old is also fond of the sport of boxing where it all started, in which many lucrative fights could still be available down the line if he chooses to make another switch. A showdown with YouTube star Jake Paul and a rematch with Mayweather have been mooted but the Irishman has two fights remaining on his UFC deal.

But he has teased a return to the squared circle insisting he will be back once he has revived his form in the cage. "Boxing is my first love in combat sports," McGregor told Sky Sports. "I had such a great time the last time I was out there. Obviously, my return will be in the octagon for UFC. That story is far from over, in fact it's just being written. It is just the beginning but boxing, for sure, I will grace the squared circle again in the future."
