Kevin Costner settles divorce drama as ex 'gets more than expected'
Kevin Costner and estranged wife Christine Baumgartner have settled their divorce after a gritty four month court battle.
The former couple signed off on a three-page settlement on Tuesday morning (September 19) according to TMZ. The judge reportedly informed Christine that their 18-year-old prenup would be enforced and if she did not agree she would have to pay over $1million plus his attorney's fees to Kevin, 68.
Full details of the settlement are as yet unknown but according to TMZ Christine's request to have her $850,000 legal fees paid has been thrown out. She will however reportedly receive more money than the prenup states. The ruling comes after the Yellowstone star was initially ordered to pay her $129,000 per month in child support, which was more than double what he was offering.
A representative of the pair shared a joint statement with Mirror, saying: "Kevin and Christine Costner have come to an amicable and mutually agreed upon resolution of all issues pertaining to their divorce proceedings."
A court hearing weeks later saw the sum reduced to $63,000 per month. Christine, 49, filed for divorce from Kevin in May after 18 years of marriage. The couple share three children - Cayden, 16, and Hayes, 14, and daughter Grace, 13.
Everything new coming to Netflix in January - including Will Smith blockbusterTheir divorce turned sour almost immediately with Christine asking for substantial amounts of money including a $250,000 child support payment and Kevin fighting back after he claimed the cash would be used for plastic surgery. In July she was ordered to leave their shared estate by a judge and relocated to a $40,000-per-month rental property in Montecito, California.
Following the outcome of the child support hearing Kevin spoke to reporters outside the court where he admitted being in a "horrible place." He told Access Hollywood: “This is a horrible place to be, but this is where we’re at. It feels so bad. We’re talking about somebody I love on the other side. I just can’t.”
Christine meanwhile claimed she was planning to “enter the workforce” when her child support plans were reduced. It is unclear whether the handbag designer still plans to do so. Last week Christine was fined $14k by the judge for failing to give Costner's legal team proper answers.
The couple got married in a lavish ceremony in Aspen, Colorado, on September 25 2004 after five years of dating. Kevin is also dad to three adult children with ex-wife Cindy Silva - Annie, 39, Lily, 36, and Joe, 35 as well as a son, Liam, 26, with his former partner Bridget Rooney.
