Strictly's Shirley, 63, shows off results of facelift ahead of first live show

Strictly Come Dancing's lead judge Shirley Ballas has spoken out about her non-surgical facelift, which has made her feel like a "diamond" ahead of the live shows.

The 63 year old star, who replaced icon Len Goodman in 2017, has said that she made the decision to rejuvenate her appearance after noticing that the elasticity of her skin was fading, leaving her feeling "down" and had "dented her confidence." And so, in a bid to regain her self-esteem, she took matters into her own hands. On the back of research and recommendation the former professional dancer contacted cosmetic practitioner Dr Judy Todd to proceed with the year-long process of NeoGen nitrogen plasma treatments, which is a non-surgical alternative to a facelift.

Shirley said: "Contrary to what people think, I'm not the most confident person in the world. Just over a year ago, I was actually getting quite down on myself because of the appearance of my face, I'm being really serious. My chin and jawline were sagging, my skin was dull, I had a lot of pigmentation with sun-spots and I had little spider veins on my nose. My face just didn't sparkle and it really dented my confidence."

The head judge, who, by her own admission, has a low pain threashold, said that she chose the nitrogen treatment because the pain was manageable. Shirley had treatments every six weeks and said that when comparing how she looked a year ago to now, following a strict treament plan, she feels "delighted with the results."

The non-invasive procedure is based on heated nitrogen gas to boost the skin's collagen and elastin, which rejuvenates the skin. Shirley, who turned 63 earlier this month has said she has had nothing but praise and compliments on her new appearance from friends, family and colleagues.

She continued: "Afterwards I just felt like a diamond, everything was just where it needed to be, it's really, really helped me. When I look at the photographs from the first day and compare with what I look like now, I can see my skin has improved dramatically, and since January the improvement has continued to get better."

The mum-of-one said that she was left so impressed by the low energy proceedure - she has no plans to stop in the near future. She added: "I intend to keep up having the NeoGen treatments for the next year. The results are completely off the chart and phenomenal so 100% I'm going to keep them up. I'm actually quite terrified at the thought of stopping having them."

Last year however, Shirley was more focused on the direction of her relationship with her beau Danny Taylor as they had discussed marriage after living together during lockdown. Speaking to The Sun at the Good Housekeeping Live Festival, she said: "We decided to do lockdown together and that was like 150 years in two years. We got to know each other inside out. We both realised that we are quite compatible. So we talked about getting married then. I don’t know how I would like him to propose . . . I would rather not know."
