Strictly Come Dancing returned to screens on Saturday night with the 2023 series, but the show received the same complaint from several viewers within minutes.

Viewers called out apparent sound issues from the off, as many were left questioning the show and the channel over "canned laughter". As hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman got underway with the show, the pros, judges and contestants came together to pull off a great first show back.

But not everyone was pleased with many complaining over the noise from the audience throughout the show, and especially at the start. Viewers heard the noise as the new contestants were introduced for the first time. The stars on the line-up this year include Zara McDermott, Amanda Abbington, Angela Rippon, Layton Williams, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Eddie Kadi and Angela Scanlon.

Also competing are Adam Thomas, Nikita Kanda, Ellie Leach, Jody Cundy CBE, Bobby Brazier, Nigel Harman, Annabel Croft and Les Dennis. But some viewers were a little distracted from the show after hearing what they believed to be fake laughter. Taking to Twitter, one fan said: "Not here for this canned laughter though."

Another viewer tweeted: "What is with this awful canned laughter," as a third added: "Whats with the ridiculous canned laughter?" A fourth fan said: "Was the launch show recorded? Hints of canned laughter?" while a fifth viewer asked: "Why does it sound like they have canned laughter in the background." This was echoed by another viewer who said: "What's wrong with the crowd noise on strictly sounds like they are mixing in canned laughter."

Meanwhile, the pro dancers taking to the stage this year will be Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Graziano Di Prima, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Giovanni Pernice, Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas and Vita Coppola. Some of them will be performing solo routines and group performances only, while the rest are paired with a celebrity.

Show favourite Amy Dowden will not be on the series this year, after sharing she had been diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. Amy had hoped to feature on the show but after treatment, she learned she had another type of cancer after more tests. Amy recently updated fans on how her treatment was going, and on having to miss the series - something viewers were gutted by. The show favourite recently reunited with her fellow pros, for a special pre-recorded group dance with her featuring in the photoshoot.

Strictly Come Dancing kicks off next Saturday and Sunday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
