Erik ten Hag has told Jadon Sancho there is no guarantee he will play for Manchester United again.

Sancho has been dropped for United's game against Brighton on Saturday and made to train alone after hitting back at Ten Hag on social media. Winger Sancho took to social media to refute Ten Hag's claim he was left out of the squad for United's 3-1 defeat at Arsenal because of poor training performances.

When Ten Hag was asked if he would consider selecting Sancho to play for United again, he would only say: "I don't know. We have a big game and we're going into a new block of games, many games in a condensed programme. I will focus on that."

Ten Hag suggested Sancho's social media post was not the first time the player had transgressed, inferring the 23-year-old has had his punishment coming for some time. "It has never been when someone makes one mistake," said Ten Hag. "It's a whole process before you come to a certain outcome about strict lines."

Ten Hag also took a swipe at Sancho, saying the team will not miss him and that he has players who can make up for his enforced absence on the right of United's attack. "I think we have constructed the squad smartly," said Ten Hag. "We have many options there, so I don't worry about that. We have options to play there."

United are also without Antony, while he defends himself against allegations of physical assault, while Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Raphael Varane, Tyrell Malacia and Sofyan Amrabat are also out. The Red Devils are in desperate need of a win following an underwhelming start to the campaign prior to the international break.

Having begun with an unconvincing 1-0 victory at home to Wolves before slumping to a 2-0 loss away to Tottenham, United's last game at Old Trafford was a rollercoaster affair with Nottingham Forest. Ten Hag's side found themselves two goals behind after just four minutes before fighting back to win 3-2 against Forest, who'd been shown a red card and conceded a dubious penalty.

Then came the bruising 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, although Ten Hag reckons that his team showed signs of improvement. "You see we are progressing against a good Arsenal side, but minimum we had to get was a draw there," the Red Devils boss claimed. "I think we should have won there but we didn't.

"We take the performance and also in the last two days, when all the players they came back, we trained very well and we are ready to fight Brighton, a very good Brighton. But we are really looking forward to it and we have a good vibe, we are ready for it."
