Forecasters predict that Friday will be another wet day for many with rain showers marking the start of the weekend.

In its weather forecast for today the Met Office has said Brits in some regions should expect 'further spells of rain, locally heavy across northern areas' whereas elsewhere conditions will be largely 'fine and dry' and warm in the south. But looking ahead to longer range forecasts there is still more balmy weather to come.

Temperatures are expected to rise again and could reach above-average levels in early October. Speaking of the week from Monday, October 2, to Tuesday, October 10, Ian Simpson, forecaster for independent team Netweather, said: "It looks probable that we will see one or two relatively settled interludes early on in the period with ridges of high pressure moving in, most likely from the south.

"Temperatures are likely to be above normal early in the period, but trending average to fairly cool late in the period. It will probably be drier than average for most, particularly in the west and north-west."

He added it'll likely be "sunnier than average", particularly in the west of England, southwest of England and across Wales. High pressure will shift to the north of England by the end of this period in what has been described as an "anomaly," implying warmer air for this time of the year typically.

The Met Office also seemed to share the warmer weather predictions over the coming few weeks in its long-range forecast. Covering the period of September 28 to October 12, the forecaster said: "Confidence remains low in late September and early October; however there are signals emerging of low pressure often being centred to the west of the UK, with higher pressure close to or just east of the UK, indicating a greater chance of more in the way of settled conditions.

"There is an increased chance of some late season warm spells, with above average temperatures most likely."
