Ashanti paid a sweet tribute to rapper Nelly as she took to pink carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards this year. The Foolish singer held onto a purse which had a throwback photo of herself and Nelly printed on it, hinting at their rekindled relationship.

She proudly held the accessory up to cameras as she strutted across the carpet, wearing a stunning sequinned cut out dress with white and green patches barely covering her bust. The singer pouted and posed for paparazzi as she made her way into the event, where she presented an award alongside rapper French Montana.

Speaking to Today, Ashanti highlighted the significance of the VMAs to her new relationship with Nelly, explaining that the pair had initially met at the awards ceremony years before. "This is where we first exchanged numbers," she told the outlet. “I was like: ‘Oh, this would be cute.' Everything is lining up in the universe. So I’m happy.”

It comes after Nelly confirmed that the pair were an item again. During an appearance on Philo TV’s Boss Moves With Rasheeda, he said: "We cool again. I think it surprised both of us."

"It wasn't anything that was planned," he added. "We both were pretty much doing what we do but sometimes being separate, you understand one another more.

"You could be like, 'Well yo, let me exactly see maybe what they see.' We all can be defensive sometimes in our own relationships. We know we wrong but we going to stand on it, you know what I mean? But we all a victim to that."

Ashanti and Nelly have been on and off since 2003

Nelly, 48 and Ashanti, 42 were linked back in 2003 and have since been involved in an on-again off-again relationship. Adding that their renewed relationship feels "good" now, Nelly continued: "I mean, it's no pressure, before I felt like both of us are doing what we’re doing before career-wise and when you got so many people in the middle of it, it can be tough."
