Owen Warner's mum Polly was given a life-threatening diagnosis which means she may need a heart transplant in the future, she has revealed.

The Hollyoaks actor's mum has revealed she may need a heart transplant after going into heart failure. Polly has been open about suffering with health issues all of her life after being diagnosed with a congenital heart condition at just 18-months-old. The 57-year-old has had a series of difficulties when it comes to her health when it was discovered that she had a leaking mitral valve and narrowing of the aorta.

She was just 11-years-old when she had invasive heart surgery and was closely monitored by teams until at the age of 34 when she was admitted to hospital with heart failure after firstly suffering from a cough.

Polly is mum to Owen as well as his brothers Jake and Louie, who is raising funds for British Heart Foundation. They were all aged five and under when she was taken into hospital. She said: "When I was just 34 years old with my hands full with three young boys, I developed a cough and became very breathless. Eventually my symptoms became so intense that I was finally diagnosed with heart failure. Fortunately, the medications started working and I began improving. I was young and had three boys – a lot to fight for."

The mum-of-three was diagnosed with Ventricular Tachycardia, which is a potentially life-threatening heart rhythm, which meant when she was 40 she had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) fitted to help manage her heart rhythm. Despite undergoing two more procedures since then, Polly's symptoms have continued to get worse. She has been told by doctors that she may need a heart transplant.

Opening up about the situation, Owen said: "Nothing makes you step back and look at things more than somebody in your family having problems with their health. Our mum means so much to us, she’s the heart of the family, so the news we’ve had over this past year has been really hard to hear. Mum has helped us all through so much and been so strong for us all, now it’s our turn to do the same for her."

This weekend Owen’s brother, Louie is taking on the Goodwood Marathon this Sunday to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. This will be his first marathon and he is keen to shine a light on heart conditions like his mum's. Louie said: "We’ve always been such a close-knit family. We always thought mum would be like any other grandparent and live until she was 90 but the reality is that we don’t know how long she’s got. I want to do my bit by fundraising for the BHF’s life saving research. We can see the medical breakthroughs being made in real time and the money I raise could help save her life. If not hers, others. That’s why I’m doing my first ever marathon."
