My Mum, Your Dad viewers were in for a surprise on Tuesday's episode as Martin H and his daughter Jessica were announced as new arrivals.

The new hit ITV dating show, hosted by Davina McCall, sees a group of single parents, who have been nominated by their grown-up kids for a second chance at love. However, there's a twist as unbeknownst to the parents, their kids will be watching their every move from a nearby location with a surveillance room where they get the chance to play matchmaker for their parent.

On Tuesday, Martin, 56, who is a retired basketball player and sports presenter was announced as a new arrival alongside his daughter, Jessica, 23, who is a model and works in marketing, as well as mental health skills coaching. Talking about why his daughter nominated him, Martin said: "To try and get me out of the friend zone!

"I have a lack of self-worth and she feels I am worthy and I do a lot for my family and I should have a chance to find emotional fulfilment. To give me a chance to get out there. I don’t have much of a social life. So to realise there’s more to life than doing the next basketball commentary or taking my kids on holiday."

Talking about taking part, he added: "I’m excited and terrified in equal measure. I’m excited to meet people in similar situations to me; as in single with adult kids. I want to understand more about the experiences they’ve had. I could find someone I could have a connection with - I don’t know. Maybe this will give me the confidence to get out there and when someone smiles at me to ask them out for a coffee or something, rather than running the other way."

Describing himself, he said: "I’m big, I’m fun, I’m outgoing and I consider myself to be a likeable sort of bloke. I’ve spent 90% of my life in the friendzone… I’m everyone’s best friend." He added over his dating history: "Using the old fashioned marking system, I’d have got a C for effort and a D for delivery. I’ve dated, I was a professional sports person for 15 years, I studied in the US on a basketball scholarship, so I’ve been exposed to the dating life for a long time, but I’ve never been very good at it. I’m a serial monogamist."

Elsewhere, Jessica said of why she nominated her dad: "I want him to get out there a bit. He’s been focussed on us kids and his work and not even really thought about the possibility of meeting someone new that he could date or have a relationship with. He deserves that and to have someone to do nice things with and have an emotional connection with outside of his kids."
