The socialite whose dismembered legs were found in a fridge in Hong Kong last week was still supporting her ex-husband and his family after their divorce.

Model and influencer Abby Choi - who had a net worth of around HK$100million (£10.6million) - was close with the family up until relations turned sour due to a property dispute.

Cops are working to track down the rest of her remains because her head, torso and hands were not at the rented beachside home in the village of Lung Mei, which sits around 18 miles outside of the city.

It's understood that the house had been rented by her former father-in-law just weeks before cops made the gruesome discovery.

Ms Choi, an heiress to a family with lucrative business dealings in China, had continued to support her ex, Alex Kwong, 28, even after they split and had paid for his parents to live in a luxury apartment, according to Hong Kong media outlet The Star.

The 28-year-old is also thought to have helped her brother-in-law Anthony to buy his own home, which is said to be what sparked the dispute.

Ms Choi had been communicating with lawyers about selling Anthony's £7.6million apartment, that she paid for but was under his name.

Lawyers had told her she would reap the proceeds of its sale if she could prove she'd been paying for it.

Alex and Anthony Kwong are in custody alongside their parents.

Police say it was Kwong's dad, a former police officer, who "meticulously planned" the slaughter and mutilation of Ms Choi.

An extensive murder kit, including a meat slicer and electric saw, were found beside pots of soup containing human tissue.

The couple are thought to have separated before 2016, when she underwent unofficial wedding rites with a restaurant chain boss.

The older brother Anthony, 31, had been working as Ms Choi’s personal driver and former business partner.

On his Instagram page, he shows himself living the high life, with photos of gourmet food and sitting in the car seat of luxury cars.

Cops launched a manhunt for Ms Choi's ex-husband Alex, offering up a £213,000 reward, before tracking him down at a pier as he tried to flee to one of the outlying islands surrounding Hong Kong by speedboat.

His parents and brother were earlier taken into custody by investigating officers.

Police Superintendent Alan Chung said: “We believe the victim and her ex-husband’s family had many financial disputes involving huge sums.

“Someone was dissatisfied with how the victim handled her assets, which became a motive to kill.

“Police also have found that the flat was arranged by cold-blooded killers meticulously.

"Tools that are used to dismember human bodies were found in the flat, including meat grinders, chainsaws, long raincoats, gloves, and masks."
