Dan Walker and Helen Skelton issued a request to fans after a final episode in their new Channel 5 travel series aired this week.

The episode saw the two TV stars, who are close friends in real life, head off on an adventure exploring the North Pennines. Over the four episodes, the duo explored the stunning countryside while getting stuck into challenging activities, from cycling along Snake Pass in the Peak District to trying their hand at float-tube fishing.

On social media, fans have raved about the new series and are hoping the show returns with a second season. However, the former Strictly Come Dancing stars have told viewers they will need to reach out to Channel 5 to make this happen.

Dan and Helen said: "Your comments have really been so kind and encouraging throughout the series and I have sent lots of them through to the teams at WAG & Channel 5. We’d love to make a second series somewhere else so make sure you let Channel 5 know if you want another one."

Taking the time to thank the team behind the show, the TV presenters added: "Thanks to everyone who we spoke to & met along the way, thanks to the wonderful team who worked on it and thank you for watching."

A number of fans immediately praised the show for keeping them entertained in the evenings since it first aired on Channel 5 in August. One follower said: "Loved this series, you and Helen compliment each other so well. You have to be on again." A second wrote: "Thank you again to everyone involved in bringing us such a joyous watch. Please, please, please come back with another series."

"A wonderful and enjoyable programme to watch. Loved all the challenges and adventures you both did. Hope they’ll be another series at some point," added a third. While a fourth commented: "Loved the friendship & the laughs you had along the way! Please do another series! It was amazing to watch!"

Both stars - who appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021 - formed a close friendship outside of the ballroom dance floor. Opening up about her close bond with Dan, Helen said: "Dan and I always have a laugh. We find the same situations funny. We both love the Pennines and we both like walking, so it was 'Shall we just go and do a bit of that for telly?' It was just a really nice opportunity to work with a friend and to celebrate a nice part of the world."

News broadcaster Dan said he 'loved the idea of working with Helen' and they can 'chat forever' with each other. "We've known each other for over a decade, so when the opportunity came up and they said 'We'd like to make a travelogue' I loved the idea of working with Helen," he explained. "We'd never done it before but we're really good friends. Then I rang Helen about it. I know she gets loads of offers to do things all the time but for me it was the opportunity to work with her and to make a programme about a place that we're both really passionate about.

"As Helen says, we've always had the same sense of humour but we also really like talking to people, understanding what makes them tick and why they do what they do. When you get the two of us together we can chat forever with each other but also with anybody that we meet along the way. Hopefully that's what comes across in the programme." Dan also said: "There were a few tears along the way, but mostly you have a nice hug, then you crack on."
