Harry Kane has had a great start to his career in Germany, his Bayern Munich side having won their opening three Bundesliga matches.

They have scored nine goals - their £100million English signing contributing three of those - and conceded only two. A fine beginning. Or maybe not. “We won the first two games 4-0 and 3-1 and there was still talk about not being too happy about the way we played,” said Kane, almost incredulous.

“It’s a different pressure to what I felt at Spurs. Of course we wanted to win things but if you went a couple of games without winning, it wasn’t a disaster. The feeling at Bayern is that you have to win every game.

“That’s part and parcel of being at one of the biggest clubs in the world. I’m enjoying feeling those different emotions and that’s part of the reason that I wanted to go.

“When we get back, we start the Champions League campaign, which they expect to win. So you’re going into those games with maybe a different feeling to what I’ve had in the past.”

And does Kane believe the added pressure will make him an even better player? “I believe it will,” he declared. “There is definitely a lot of pressure to take. Time will tell, but at the moment I am enjoying that feeling.”

He insists that intensity will not only have a positive spin-off him but also for the England team. He said: “The experience of having title runs and cup runs and hopefully a Champions League run will only add to handling pressure in certain situations.

“If we are going to win anything with England, we are going to have to deal with that. Me, being captain, I want to put myself in that position as much as possible.”

Kane also admits the sight of England team-mates lifting major club honours spurred him in his switch to Bayern Munich. He said: “As a competitor, when the boys are playing the Champions League and I am just sitting at home watching it, I would be lying if I said there wasn’t a part of me that hurt.

“Of course, I want them to do well but a part of me wants to have those experiences. I am not sure jealous is the right word but with other players in the team having done that, it does motivate me to go on and try to push myself towards some of those trophies the guys have got.”

While Kane’s start in the Bundesliga has been impressive, in terms of Englishmen abroad, he has been overshadowed by Jude Bellingham, who has made a sensational impact at Real Madrid, scoring five times in four La Liga matches.

And those numbers have certainly caught Kane’s eye. He said: “I’ve seen his great start in La Liga. He’s managed to score a few goals so is competing for the most goals this season.

“If we get to March and he is still up there with me, I might have a few words. It’s great to see. He’s an extremely good player, great person, very mature for his age so it’s great to see him doing well.”

And with Kane and Bellingham in harness, no wonder England are strongly-fancied to go all the way at the Euros.

“I think we’ve earned the respect of a lot of nations around the world,” said Kane. “And when you have been close in a couple of tournaments everyone feels that little bit more motivation to put it right next time.”
