KSI showed off knockout power when YouTube star put sparring partner to sleep

KSI's original trainer Viddal Riley grew wary of the YouTube boxer's ferocious punching power after watching him leave a sparring partner face-down on the canvas during an early session.

London-born cruiserweight Viddal is set to fight for his first professional title when he faces Nathan Quarless at York Hall on September 30 for the English belt. But while he was still plying his trade in the amateur ranks, he earned a massive social media following through training KSI for his fights with Joe Weller and Logan Paul.

After just a few days working together, he put the social media sensation in for what was supposed to be a light spar, with a local fighter opting not to even wear headgear given the massive skill gap between the two. But KSI hurt him with a flush punch and his next shot ended up sending him to sleep early.

"Remember you knocked out that guy in GymBox?" Riley asked his pal during a recent interview on his YouTube channel. "You knocked out that guy in the cage. The first time I took JJ on the pads I said 'oh, he's got a dig' and then you were sparring that guy and I said to him 'I think you should wear a headguard', he said 'I don't need a headguard' and I said 'ok!'

"Literally about two rounds later, man just fell and at that moment I said 'if someone this novice can put someone to sleep like this?' You hit hard and from that moment, my confidence was like, when you hit Weller, he's not going to like it and when you hit anyone, even your most difficult fights like the first Logan one, when you pushed and started hitting him he stayed negative."

KSI remembers the spar as well, adding in quips around Riley's commentary: "I remember it so vividly that he was like 'I don't need a headguard'. I was like 'oh brother' - he flopped - long day. [When I hit anyone] it's a shock, Logan was like 'what the f***?' He's scared if he throws and I throw at the same time and I catch him he's going to be like 'oh f***'."

And it's that brutal power that Riley feels could hand KSI a lifeline in an otherwise seemingly unwinnable fight against Tommy Fury next month in Manchester. The Watford native is a massive underdog against lifetime boxer Fury, who just defeated Jake Paul and is a member of the famous fighting family that includes world heavyweight champion Tyson.

"When it comes to the fight against Tommy it's like Jake was landing," he explained. "Let's not act like he wasn't. He was landing and there are certain shots where I'm like 'oh if JJ lands this', because you do hit like that, he wouldn't eat [overhand rights]. Why don't someone take it to him? Because you could get whacked. I said to someone that you are the Wilder of this thing."
