The recent announcement of Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour movie has seemingly rattled major Hollywood studios who were reportedly pushed out of negotiations to produce it.

Over three months ago, Adam Aron, CEO of AMC Theatres, chatted with Taylor's father, Scott Swift. He's known to be a business man and had a 'crazy idea' to pitch to him, according to Puck News. Rather than Taylor work with a major Hollywood studio for production and distribution, they wanted to work directly with the movie theatre company.

In the current worker's climate, the business move came as a slap to Hollywood studios who are already facing the effects of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. Not to mention, Taylor had previously partnered with Netflix for movie distribution for Miss Americana and the Reputation tour movie, making this an unprecedented move for her.

While unheard of for Taylor, AMC had done a similar deal with Chance the Rapper in 2021. This was different, though, as Taylor's Eras Tour has seen record breaking success and is likely giving the company a higher revenue boost than Chance's movie. In fact, the ticket sale demand was so great that they had to implement a Ticketmaster-like queue to help manage fans attempting to secure a seat in the theatres. Despite their best efforts, the site and app still crashed.

Matthew Belloni, former editor of The Hollywood Reporter and an entertainment lawyer, wagered that the move may have angered the studios. Those same studios are key partners for the company.

Apparently, Aron is unworried about upsetting those partners. During the COVID-19 pandemic, tension was already rising between theaters and Hollywood studios. After all, those studios were finding greater success pushing their films to streaming sites when heading to the theaters just wasn't an option. Even when theater-going came back as an option, many studios only made their movies in-theater exclusive for a short time.

At the end of the day, Belloni reported that Taylor's team was totally over their negotiations with the studios. Apparently, they were 'disappointed' by the discussions that were happening.

While it has not been confirmed if this decision had anything to do with the ongoing strikes, Taylor is a known member of SAG-AFTRA. However, since the movie film had nothing to do with acting, she was given the green light to make and promote it. The singer also had to agree to certain working conditions and pay standards which, seeing as the filming is moving forward, she did.

The Mirror has reached out to Taylor's team and AMC Theatres.
