Brits in stitches at 'raging psycho' statues of kids' characters in UK park
Children have been left in tears and parents in hysterics following a visit to an unusual attraction. Families head to The Den and the Glen in Aberdeen, Scotland, for fun day out at its soft play area, café and playground, the latter which features statues of beloved characters like Shrek, Cinderella and the Teletubbies.
Only, families have said that instead they were greeted with terrifying creations including a "raging psycho" Shrek, some disturbing looking fish, and a Cinderella who looks like she didn't get home until way past midnight, , the Daily Star reported.
Rather than emanating warm and nostalgic vibes, the sculptures have left some visitors disturbed. The Teletubbies - who built a following for themselves by coming across as cute and cuddle - are curiously slender and bony looking. They stand near a model train which seems to be wearing smudged lipstick and has anarchy crosses instead of pupils.
"The Glen (formerly Storybook Glen) is world of make-believe and fun for children and adults of all ages, set amidst 28 acres of scenic beauty in Maryculter, Aberdeen. Come along and see your favourite nursery rhyme and fairy-tale characters," an explanation on the park's website reads.
Reviews online have been quite cutting about the intriguing statues. "You have to see it. Well worth a visit, although it was on and off raining...Some of the statues, more than a few, look like they’re on drugs."

Shrek and friends can be visited at the park (Tripadvisor)A local from Aberdeen added: "I used to love this place as a kid, but these days it's clear the focus is more on the Den these days. There is a lot of work needs to be done on the Glen to get it up to standard. Some of the statues are just terrifying and about 30 years out of date."
Another said: "The children are crying" while one holidaymaker wrote: "Stuff of nightmares… It looks like there has been very little upkeep since then, which is a shame as I recall really enjoying it as a young child!
There are also some fish looking sculptures (Tripadvisor)"The statues were awful and looked very very creepy and nothing like the actual characters they are supposed to portray! I mean there was a statue of a woman with a child bent over their knee smacking it!"
However, not everyone was as horrified by the "run down" statues. One woman, from Scotland, said: "I last visited 34 years ago when I was six. Today, I took my six-year-old. Yes it's dated but frankly young children don't notice. My child was mesmerised as all the stories and nursery rhymes she knew came to life. She told me she felt like she was IN a storybook, and that's why you go!"
