Sergio Ramos aims dig at players moving to Saudi after making emotional transfer
Sergio Ramos has fired a subtle dig at players in Saudi Arabia by claiming he is not motivated by money after his Sevilla return was confirmed.
The Spanish defender, 37, found himself without a club earlier this summer after allowing his Paris Saint-Germain contract to run down. He was previously linked with making a move to Saudi Arabia for the final years of his career.
Should Ramos had made the move, he would have been reunited with former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema at Al-Ittihad. It would also have seen him come up against another Los Blancos icon in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo - the Portuguese becoming one of the first big names to make the move after his Manchester United exit.
However, Ramos has not followed his former teammates and instead turned down a switch to the Gulf state in favour of former club Sevilla, with his reasons not driven by his pay packet.
He said: "I had the opportunity to continue in Paris for two years, but I didn't see it. I have always been moved by impulses and heart. Not by money. That's why I didn't go to Arabia or the MLS.

“That's why I risked the call until the minute 93 to sign for Sevilla. Sometimes everything happens for a reason and I believe in energy. For me it was a dream to return here.

“The time to return was now, as I could help the club in a delicate moment, and the economic issue has not been a problem because we solved it in five seconds.”
Whilst Ramos has assured that he was not following cash with his next career move, he has also opened up on the reasons behind why he decided to return to Sevilla. The centre-back previously represented the Spanish club between 2003 and 2006 before a fractious move to Real Madrid.
“I’m looking forward to going home, it didn’t make sense to go anywhere else without going through here,” the now 37-year-old added. “It was a debt with my father, with my grandfather, with Sevilla and with Puerta, with many things that have meant a lot and I think it was the moment.”
After returning to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, Ramos will now turn his attention to his second debut for the LaLiga side. They take on Las Palmas in their first outing after the international break.
The veteran will be wanting to play a role in getting his new side back on track. Sevilla have endured a rotten start to the new campaign with three defeats from their opening three games and they now sit at the bottom of the table.
