Two UK beaches have been named some of the world's most beautiful shores, alongside the likes of Hawaii, the Maldives and Australia.

The expert team at Big 7 Travel unveiled 50 must-visit beaches, looking at factors such as popularity, Blue Flag status, and how often the beaches feature in rankings of the prettiest coastal spots in the world.

While some of the usual suspects such as the Caribbean and the Seychelles made the cut, it turns out the UK has held its own with two beaches making the cut. The first is Pedn Vounder in Cornwall, which took the 25th spot in the world 50 rankings.

The experts explained: "Cornwall has long been a summer getaway destination for local families, but its gorgeous coastline has caught the eye of international travellers. Despite the crowds, Pedn Vounder is still one of the UK’s most beautiful beaches. Combining crystal clear blue water and white sand, it’s proof that you don’t need to hotfoot to the Caribbean for a tropical island-inspired getaway."

They're not the only people who think it's beautiful. Over on Tripadvisor, visitors have been quick to praise the beach for its incredible setting - although it's worth noting it's not the easiest beach to reach. Some visitors were also quick to flag that it is a nudist beach.

One person wrote: "Totally amazing- but mainly writing this review for some advice for others, we've been going for 30 years, but due to social media lots of people now trying. You need to be pretty fit, mobile and able to descend down a cliff face to access - getting down with buggies or people with mobility difficulties will find it difficult. Also it is a nudist beach, has been for years and years - if people have an issue with this, it's probably not the beach for you."

Another added that it was "the most gorgeous beach I have ever visited".

It wasn't the only UK beach to impress. We weren't surprised to see Rhossili Bay in Swansea making the list (it took 42nd place) considering we've previously flagged it as one of the UK's best Caribbean-worthy beaches.

The Big 7 Travel team said: "Three miles of golden sands await you in the Gower Peninsula of Wales. It’s a bit of a hike down a steep cliff-top path to get there (and even harder to get back up), but all good things require a bit of effort. It’s a popular surfing spot, or you can just relax and enjoy the beach – it’s kept pristine under the watchful eye of the National Trust."

In Tripadvisor reviews, visitors did point out it wasn't the easiest beach to reach, but was well worth it for the views. One person wrote: "Never been here and glad i did. Such a beautiful place. Choice of two routes, beach walk or trail walk. Next time i will pack a picnic."

Another added: First thought.... Is how steep is that to get to the beach and the answer is..... It isn't. The path is laid out well and doesn't take long to get on the beach. The views are stunning. The view cafe is amazing and food is gorgeous. Highly recommend this."
