My Mum, Your Dad host Davina McCall has spoked out on how hard it can be to find love again after having your heart broken.

The host of the new ITV dating show for single parents reflected on the difficult task the singletons had to face after being nominated by their grown-up children to find love again. The TV presenter admitted having your heart broken can leave you more cautious when it comes to taking risks in your love life.

She said: "No-one really wants to take risks, and I think people are very nervous about being rejected. But I also think there are other good sides to it, you are a lot more likely to not mind making a fool of yourself."

Teasing viewers with what can be expected from My Mum, Your Dad, Davina made it clear this is a dating show with a difference. She continued: "Everybody in there is in what you would call mid-life, I would say, ranging from mid-40s up to late 50s. Everybody is in there because they want a second chance at love. They want to find somebody.

"I think what you are looking for is very different when you are in mid-life. When you've been through relationships, perhaps have had kids, they have grown up and the things that you are seeking are different in terms of companionship and chemistry."

The grown-up children of a range of singletons nominated their parents before later finding out they will be watching their parents' quest for love from a nearby location. Mums and dads who have either lost partners or struggled to find love their entire lives are just some of those looking to meet someone special.

Davina explained: "There's a guy in there who is a widow. His daughter nominated him for the show and the really touching thing is that, just the act of his daughter dropping him off at the retreat to go and potentially try and meet someone, is the sweetest thing, because you know how hard it must be for her to give permission to her dad to move on from her mum.

"There's another one of the guys who I found interesting because he was a confident guy, he was fun, but once he got into the retreat, he was so quiet. One lady’s daughter feels a bit responsible for her mum's happiness. They are best friends, but she doesn’t really like the idea of leaving home while her mum's alone. Then we have another guy who I needed to give a pep talk to. He was amazing in his chosen profession, but he really struggles with self-confidence."

My Mum, Your Dad starts Monday 11th September, 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX. The series will run on consecutive weeknights for two weeks.
