Two-time Super Bowl champion Deion Sanders took umbrage with ESPN reporter Ed Werder after the Colorado Buffaloes head coach enjoyed a winning start on debut.

Sanders, 56, was on the road against last season's national championship finalists, the Texas Christian University (TCU) Horned Frogs, to start their college football season, making them huge underdogs. Despite their offseason coaching change, Colorado remained unfancied after winning just one of their dozen games last year.

However, their roster has changed from 12 months ago after using the transfer portal to overhaul their team. Sanders also recruited his two sons, Shedeur and Shilo, from his former school, Jackson State University. His mere presence has generated significant preseason hype. But in the American media, they were widely doubted up until kickoff.

And against all odds, they won their season opener 45-42 at TCU. Then afterwards, Sanders was brutal when addressing the doubters in the audience during his press conference. "What's up, boss? You believe now?" the coach said, addressing Werder. As the reporter was about to reply, Sanders interjected: "Hold on," he repeated multiple times before, again, asking whether Werder had converted to being a believer.

"I read through the bulljoke you wrote, I read through that, I sifted through all that," Sanders said, alluding to Werder's work previewing the team's season. After asking once more whether he believed now, the eight-time Pro Bowler concluded: "You don't believe. Just asking. You don't believe. Next question."

Despite the Colorado coach refusing to answer his question, Werder has risen above engaging in a back-and-forth. Taking to social media over the weekend, Werder tweeted: "Saturday was surely among the greatest in the life of Deion Sanders, both as a coach and father. Congratulations, it was mesmerizing to watch."

In another post about the team's quarterback and Sanders' son, Shedeur, Werder stays similarly supportive. "A school-record 510 yards passing, four touchdowns and multiple fourth-quarter touchdown drives to take the lead after falling behind TCU. @ShedeurSanders deserves it."

It was not just Werder Sanders took umbrage with either. Addressing the collective doubters during his FOX interview immediately following the game's final play, the Colorado coach was keen to mark the moment. "We told you we coming, we told you we coming," was how he concluded his interview. "You thought we was joking, but guess what, we keep receipts."

He did also speak about the game before that, though, "Thank you, Jesus. I'm so thankful right now," Sanders said. "My son, (Shedeur), I'm loving these kids. Rick George (Colorado athletic director), who gave me this opportunity, this is a blessing. Everybody, Buff Nation that has supported us and all the 'hood that have my back, I thank y'all. God, this is good. Woah!" The task for Colorado does not get much easier either, as they return home next weekend and face their rivals, the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
