Manchester United were left frustrated after Declan Rice scored a 96th minute winner for Arsenal as they ran out 3-1 winners at the Emirates on Sunday.

Marcus Rashford had given the Red Devils the lead mid-way through the first-half with a terrific solo strike. But United's slender advantage lasted less than a minute as Martin Odegaard finished off an impressive Arsenal move.

The game ebbed and flowed throughout and Alejandro Garnacho thought he was the match-winner, only for VAR to rule the goal out for offside. That incident proved costly for United, who conceded deep into injury-time as Rice smashed the ball beyond Andre Onana via a deflection.

Gabriel Jesus added gloss on the scoreline in the 101st minute as United slumped to their second defeat in four Premier League matches this season. Here is the latest news from Old Trafford.

Fernandes' reaction

United skipper Bruno Fernandes delivered an honest response to the Red Devils' dramatic late defeat at the Emirates - but did admit his side can take many positives.

"It is always tough to lose the way we lost. We conceded the late goal after trying to get the draw," Fernandes told Sky Sports. "They are a good team, they created a lot of problems for us. It was a good game for both teams but they got the points in the end.

"I felt the game was balanced. They had some spells on the ball but we wanted them to have that, we knew we could create the danger on the counters.

"It is what it is, if it is an offside we can't get on that. It was a good game, I am disappointed by the result, but the performance of the team, the passion was there. If we keep doing this consistently we will get results.

"It is 11 vs 11, home or away doesn't change anything. We had a really good game, it wasn't perfect as we didn't get the win but the spirit was right, the mentality, the desire, everyone doing the job the manager asked for.

"Sometimes the details change the game. It is not perfect to lose but I think we can take a lot of positives from this game."

Ten Hag angered

After the match, Ten Hag fumed at THREE decisions that went against United at the Emirates.

The first came when Rasmus Hojlund went down inside the area as United searched for a winner. But referee Anthony Taylor was not interested and neither was VAR.

The technology did intervene, meanwhile, when the Red Devils thought they had snatched all three points through Alejandro Garnacho. However, VAR deemed Garnacho to be offside in the build-up as the scores stayed level.

Then, the third decision Ten Hag was not happy with came just before Rice fired Arsenal into the lead in the 96th minute after Jonny Evans appeared to be pulled back by Gabriel.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Ten Hag started by fixating on the offside incident: "It's not offside. [It’s the] Wrong angle."

Pressed on his comments and that offside is a black and white issue and either is or isn’t, Ten Hag said: "It is, so we have to accept it. But I’ve seen the angle. I don’t see it as offside."

Ten Hag then moved on to the other two decisions. "It’s a penalty on Hojlund," Ten Hag raged. "And at the end we concede a goal, and it’s a foul on Jonny Evans. It’s so clear and obvious."

Keane's verdict

Roy Keane has admitted defeat was "tough" to take for United after they came so close to winning the match, let alone coming away with a one point.

Keane told Sky Sports: "Yes, it’s tough but that is top level football. Credit to both teams and both managers because they both went out to try and win the game.

"It’s tough on Manchester United, but they have scored some late goals over the seasons and they maybe [Arsenal] just about deserved it."

When pressed about United as an overall outfit, Keane added: "I think the manager will be pleased with the performance, but if you look at the bigger picture there is still massive problems at the club.

"You look at the defence at the end of the game, I know there are injuries but you have (Harry) Maguire, they are trying to move him on, and Jonny Evans, I like Jonny, Jonny is a good lad, but he left Manchester United seven or eight years ago because he was not good enough, he’s coming on today.

"They are really stretched with the injuries. You look at the new striker today, you look at (Anthony) Martial, the manager praised him but I don’t think he had a kick and didn't do too much. There was spirit and fight there but in terms of the bigger picture and them at least trying to compete with Manchester City, I think they are way off it."
