Neville insists Glazers will sell Man Utd in attack over 'depressed ambitions'

Gary Neville believes the Glazers WILL sell Manchester United in a passionate rant at the ownership group.

It was reported on Saturday night that the Glazers were prepared to take United off the market, which would signal an end to the club's takeover process. The Americans opened up bidding for investment or even a full buy-out of the Red Devils last November - over 17 years since the Glazers took full control at Old Trafford.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani quickly emerged as the frontrunners, but neither have managed to get close to the Glazers' £6billion valuation. And now, according to the Daily Mail, the Glazers will take United off the market because no bidders have got close to their asking price.

Following that news, Neville delivered his verdict on the Glazers and admitted they are at fault for United not being a "successful" club at this point in time. The Red Devils last won the Premier League a decade ago, despite winning the top-flight 13 times in the previous 21 years.

Speaking after United's 3-1 defeat at Arsenal, Neville told Sky Sports: "It is a game for them. They think it is a toy. Of course they will sell, they are desperate for money. They can't compete on FFP anymore. Manchester United are talking like a mid-table club when it comes to the transfer market.

"They turn over £500m, they are one of the highest revenue generating clubs in the world. Chelsea, Arsenal and all these clubs can sign players and United are scrambling around with FFP.

"They had issues with losses during Covid. The game was fantastic but it won't change the fact the owners of one of the biggest football clubs in the world are messing around with it.

"It will seem I always mention the owners and I will because they are still messing around with this football club. Imagine how unsettled it is behind the scenes, all the staff wondering if they have a job in six months if new owners come in. The players will be wondering if they will be sold and money will be spent if new owners come in.

"Imagine you are selling a business, it creates an unsettled environment and a toxicity that exists at United. The owners have created that. It is difficult to be successful if you have so much uncertainty at the top of the club. Today, United performed well and ultimately you can say that is nothing to do with the owners.

"But overall, it is not a successful football club because of what the owners have done. They have depressed ambitions."

United are back in the Champions League this season, having finished third in the Premier League last term. However, despite reaching Europe's elite club competition, the Red Devils haven't been able to spend as much as some this summer due to Financial Fair Play regulations.

Ten Hag has spent over £150m on transfers, with Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana arriving for big-money fees, while Sofyan Amrabat, Altay Bayindir, Sergio Reguilon and Jonny Evans all signed on Deadline Day to take it to seven summer recruits.
