Noel Gallagher refuses to accept huge BBC presenting role and slams show bosses

Noel Gallagher has hit out at the BBC to slam them for hassling him to appear on one of their shows - and slates them for sacking drug users while protecting pedophiles.

The outspoken 56-year-old rock musician took aim at the corporation to brand bosses “big fannies” for having their priorities in the wrong place. Noel has been outspoken about his drug use in the past.

The rock musician thinks the BBC were fools to fire Angus Deayton from presenting Have I Got News For You? in 2002 after he was exposed for using cocaine and sleeping with prostitutes. Noel explained his feelings as he revealed he has been asked to host the long-running BBC panel show - which has had guest presenters each week since Angus’s firing over 20 years ago.

Noel told The Matt Morgan Podcast: “I was actually asked to present Have I Got News For You, but I’d be so out of my depth with those guys who are like f***ing amazingly funny and witty - Paul Merton and Ian Hislop and whoever else would be on it.”

He hinted he might not be able to come up with jokes like the guests on the show do. He explained: “But like, you see people on Have I Got New For You and you just think, ‘Why are they on it?’

“And they don’t say a thing because obviously they’ve not said anything funny and it’s just edited out and they just sit there and it’s just a pointless f***ing exercise. But I’ve been asked to do things like that and I’m always like, ‘No, it’s not for me’.”

Noel went on to slam the BBC for sacking Angus over his drug use and engagements with prostitutes while the vile crimes of pedophile Jimmy Saville seemed to go unchallenged. Noel said: “They should have kept him, he was the best! It’s the f***ing BBC being big fannies, innit? It’s like anyone that’s ever been remotely controversial has got to be fired.”

Have I Got News For You is not the only show that Noel has been invited to host. He revealed: “They’ve been trying to get me on Never Mind The Buzzcocks for years but I don’t really do those kind of things.”

Never Mind The Buzzcocks is a music based panel show which originally aired on BBC Two from 1996 until 2015. It has aired on Sky Max since 2021 and has seen a range of high profile stars host the series over the past 27 years.

Mark Lamarr, Simon Amstell, Rhod Gilbert and Greg Davies have all held the main presenter role over the course of the show. While Phil Jupitus Sean Hughes, Bill Bailey, Noel Fielding, Daisy May Cooper and Jamali Maddix have all acted as team captains.
