A gunman is still at large after a man was shot twice in a chilling attack in one of the country's biggest cities.

The shocking violent incident unfolded in the Small Heath area of Birmingham, on September 2. A 21-year-old man was shot in the stomach and leg and had to be rushed to hospital.

Officers scrambled to the scene at about 8pm on Saturday after reports of gunfire, and found the young man with injuries not thought to be life-threatening. He was taken to hospital and a cordon was set up. Pictures from the scene show officers working from behind the cordon and as of Sunday morning there have still been no arrests made.

The incident took place in a busy part of the city, with a mixture of businesses and residential homes around. With the shooter still free, officers are investigating and have appealed to anyone with information to get in touch, BirminghamLive reported. They stated that enquiries into what took place are ongoing.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We are investigating after a man was shot in Birmingham last night. We were called to Charles Road shortly before 8pm after reports of gunshots. A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital with leg and stomach injuries, though they are not thought to be life-threatening. Enquiries are ongoing and officers are asking anyone who saw what happened to call 101 or use Live Chat quoting log 3874 of 2 September."
