Man Utd release statement on Mason Greenwood after he makes controversial move
Manchester United have vowed to "continue to offer its support" to Mason Greenwood after the striker sealed a loan move away from Old Trafford on deadline day.
Greenwood, 21, hasn't played professional football since his arrest in January 2022. Charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against the forward were dropped seven months ago.
United concluded an internal investigation after Greenwood's criminal case ended and announced he will not represent the club again in August. Ahead of Friday's 11pm transfer deadline, it was confirmed the player had signed for La Liga side Getafe on a season-long loan.
The club currently lie 12th in Spain's top flight, ahead of an away trip to leaders Real Madrid on Saturday. Greenwood, however, will not be involved in that fixture.
Following the move, United released a statement which read: “Mason Greenwood has signed for La Liga side Getafe on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance. The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United."

United chiefs also pledged to keep contact with the one-cap England international, adding: “The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”
Greenwood had looked set for a move to Lazio, after the Serie A side opened talks with United. However, a deal didn't materialise, with Getafe then moving to capitalise, with their official Twitter account posting: "Mason Greenwood new blue footballer."

Greenwood proved the most newsworthy outgoing for United boss Erik ten Hag on Friday, despite Scott McTominay being heavily linked with a move. But the midfielder stayed put after Fulham cooled their interest when Joao Palhinha's proposed switch to Bayern Munich collapsed.
Four players came through the door at Carrington, with Sofyan Amrabat arriving on loan from Fiorentina after a summer-long pursuit. Sergio Reguilon also arrived on a season-long loan deal, while Jonny Evans re-signed after training with the club in pre-season.
Keeper Altay Bayindir also completed his £4.3million switch from Turkish side Fenerbahce. That followed the departure of Dean Henderson, who earlier this week moved to Crystal Palace for a £15million fee.
